VHS : A Town Like Alice
I loved this series, when I first watched in on television back in the '80s. Every couple of years I pull the tape off the shelf and re-watch it.

This is not just for Bryan Brown fans, but for the Gordon Jackson fans in the crowd. Jackson's portrayal of a man who falls in love too late in life, is very touching.

I would love to see it available on DVD!

VHS : The Color Purple
One of those movies that touches a person differently with each viewing, `The Color Purple' may be a perfect film. It's hard to take, sometimes overly dramatic (this may be uplifting and inspiring in the end, but getting there is a rough journey) but Steven Spielberg almost takes a Ron Howard approach to his filmmaking and creates a film that is dramatic yet heartwarming, with enough elements of purity that make the heavy-handed delivery seem as smooth as butter. Now I have not read Alice Walker's novel, but I really want to now, so I can't say if the film is as faithful as it should have been; but judging the film on its own merit there is no fault I can find, no fault at all.

The film tells the tragic story of Celie Johnson, a young woman abused by her father (birthing him two ... Read More

VHS : Becket (Letterboxed Edition)
I love Peter O'Toole as King Henry II. Becket is great but the Lion in Winter is better. Peter plays Henry a bit mad in Becket while he played him cunning in Lion in Winter. Richard Burton also provides a fine performance as Becket. And Lion in Winter has a star cast, if not when it was made, then over time such as Anthony Hopkins and Timothy Dalton not to mention the wonderful performance by Katharine Hepburn as Eleanor of Aquitaine.

4.To Kill a Mockingbird (Widescreen) starring: Gregory Peck, John Megna, Frank Overton, Rosemary Murphy, Ruth White (II)

VHS : To Kill a Mockingbird (Widescreen)
A movie that is just plain well-acted. The ensemble supports Mr. Gregory Peck as if his life depended on it. Mr. Brock Peters becomes more than the average mongrel can stand: an innocent man of a shade other than pink, and justice won't be served because of the mongrels. But criticizing this film would be like shooting a mockingbird, wouldn't it? This is another dumbed-down attempt at looking at the mongrel world from a bystander's perspective.

I am sorry to say the quality of the DVD was poor.

We couldn't watch it as it stopped and started, or paused and started.

I am very disappointed.

Will You replace this DVD?

This movie was very disturbing yet it was fantastic! This movie also looked into Mother-Daughter relationships. Have your tissue ready because this is a tear jerker!

VHS : Giant (2pc) (Ws Aniv)
What is it all these people are praising? I saw nothing of the quality which they seem to see. Rock Hudson was ridiculous! James Dean and Elizabeth Taylor are too young to play their roles, no matter how much silver the make-up people spray into their hair. It was so long and boring. The blocking was clumsy and stilted. What else can I say? I could only get through one hour of this disaster. Academy Awards? Give me a break.

VHS : Father Goose
Light-hearted, yet philosophical and with a spark of "danger"
thrown in at just the right times.
Brilliant role by Cary Grant, with his classic expressions, and
subtle moves. Just a great sit-back-and-enjoy movie.

10.Little Buddha (Ws) starring: Keanu Reeves, Ruocheng Ying, Chris Isaak, Bridget Fonda, Alex Wiesendanger

VHS : Little Buddha (Ws)
The premise of the movie primarily addresses the historical perspective and fundamental principles of Buddahism, enlightenment and reincarnation. The movie transitions between the historical Buddha and and the more modern day application. The historical period reflects on the growth and development of a Prince (played by Keanu Reaves) who is searching for the meaning of life and ultimately develops and practices the precepts of Buddahism. Prince Siddharta is Buddha. The modern time period revolves around a Lama in pursuit of his recently deceased 'teacher' who has been reincarnated in three different children. The majority of the modern time period is in America, where the Lama tries to persuade the parents (Chris Isaak and Jane Fonda) of a young boy that thier son is the reincarnated teacher. While ...
