VHS : No Time for Sergeants
It arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The condition was ok, not great but ok. It did appear as if it came from a video rental company which was a bit troubling. All in all it was an ok experience although I think for the condition a bit overpriced.

VHS : Facts of Life
There is something splendid about this little comedy starring two of the most hilariously on-point comedic minds of all time; Bob Hope and Lucille Ball. Yes, even though some of the gags don't quite work, Ball and Hope are never short of amazing and they help to elevate the `at times' ridiculousness of the script. I say `at times' and I mean it, because for the most part this movie delivers quite strongly. It is only in parts where things don't quite add up.

Ball and Hope play Kitty and Larry respectively. Neither can stand one another yet both are married to the others best friend. Kitty is married to Jack, a nice and responsible man, and Larry is married to Mary, a charming bride; but both Mary and Jack are at times too preoccupied with their own lives that Kitty and Larry wind ... Light-hearted, yet philosophical and with a spark of "danger"
thrown in at just the right times.
Brilliant role by Cary Grant, with his classic expressions, and
subtle moves. Just a great sit-back-and-enjoy movie.

VHS : It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (Ws)
I enjoyed this movie as a kid, but watched it recently and found it to be bloated and dated and not all that funny. However, the final two minutes are one of the most profoundly spiritual moments in the history of cinema.

The lesson learned by Spencer Tracy's character, that life is inherently absurd and laughter is the best medicine for melancholy, is one that we can all benefit from. When sadness strikes, I watch the final two minutes several times in a row, and experience a healing catharsis.

This all sounds a little pompous and pretentious (even to me), but it is true nevertheless.

One of the very funny lines comes from an officer watching through binoculars as Nick Holden brings a boat load of nurses back to the sub from a bombed island: "Wow -- now that's what I call scavenging!" The officer is played by Dick Sargent, the second Darin on "Bewitched."

Matt Sherman comments that he's a little concerned about Lt. Holden's influence and recommends a little less "Wow" and a little more "Tsk Tsk."

7.Manhattan starring: Woody Allen

VHS : Manhattan
I have always thought 'Manhattan' was one of Woody Allen's best films. Filmed in glorious black and white with many of Woody's staple players and a great performance by young Mariel Hemingway. The DVD has a good transfer, but I noticed that there is a slight pause between chapter breaks which is a little distracting! Too bad, it deserves a better treatment and these kinds of glitches are really inexcusable.

VHS : Swinging Cheerleaders Collector's Edition
I saw this film as part of a Cheerleader triple feature with my husband, then boyfriend at the local drive-in theater. It was the only film to have a plot and to hold my interest. In addition, it had a talented cast, my favorites being Colleen Camp and Rainbeaux Smith. The story is not deep, but then again, this movie doesn't pretend to make a big political statement or address social issues. It is just mindless campy fun from the 1970's, with some sex thrown in. It reminds me of an adult cartoon, and has been referred to by Director Jack Hill as a "Disney Sex Comedy." The picture quality is excellent and crisp, which really brings out the cartoonish, artificial look of the sets. (Jack Hill shot this film in 12 days, so you're not looking at a big budget production.) The men's feathered haircuts are especially hilarious, and be sure ... Read More

I am sorry to say the quality of the DVD was poor.

We couldn't watch it as it stopped and started, or paused and started.

I am very disappointed.
