I have all of Barbra Streisand movies on Dvd except for this one. This is one of the biggest mysteries. It probably is Barbra's best film ever and it is still not out on Dvd. What are they waiting for? I wish someone knew the answer to this question.

2.Mortal Storm starring: Margaret Sullavan, James Stewart, Robert Young, Frank Morgan, Robert Stack
directed by: Frank Borzage

VHS : Mortal Storm
This WWII political drama starring Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan, along with very young Robert Stack, Dan Dailey, Robert Young and of course, the Wizard of Oz, Frank Morgan, who is fabulous in this dramatic role, has been overlooked by the wizards of Hollywood. Due to the overall excellence of the film, great acting and wonderful scenes of Jimmy and Margaret "skiing" in the Alps at night, it should be listed, at least, as one of the best 100 films.

3.A Rugrats Chanukah starring: Elizabeth Daily, Christine Cavanaugh, Nancy Cartwright, Cree Summer, Tara Strong

VHS : A Rugrats Chanukah
I'm not a big Rugrats fan but I struggled to find a video that would explain Hannukah AND captivate my 3 year old. This video does both. I love the Yiddish phrases sprinkled throughout, they remind me of my culture. I also love that they incorporate the Hebrew blessing.

4.Voyage of the Damned starring: Faye Dunaway, Oskar Werner, Lee Grant, Sam Wanamaker, Lynne Frederick

I saw this when it first came out and had never before heard of the SS St Louis...and I naively supposed that while other countries, such as Cuba, would turn away these helpless people, the USA would welcome them a la Statue of Liberty...("Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!")
apparently I was wrong, and my shock was first in discovering that this was indeed a true historical event and also that WE turned these poeple AWAY! THAT horrified me more than anything else and to this day I still do not understand WHY. This is the USA! What was up with FDR?
Excellent cast, great acting, right from the heart, ... Read More

VHS : Annie Hall
I was discussing favorite films with a friend (East coast Jewish), who raved about Annie Hall. I said I didn't like Woody Allen. I'd seen a couple of his movies and wasn't impressed. She said, "Well, there is a lot of New York humor in it, maybe you wouldn't know the references." OK, I AM from Ohio, but I am NOT a rube! I really wanted to tell her off, but I watched Annie instead. Then I thanked her for offending me, because this movie is wonderfully quirky and very funny. Since then, I have had to watch every Woody Allen movie. Not all of them are good, it's true, but some are absolute gems. Annie Hall is a gem.

It's a romantic comedy about an unlikely couple, dialogue-heavy, and sprinkled with flashbacks of Alvy's life before Annie. You must listen to the dialogue to appreciate the film; ... Read More

VHS : Seventh Cross
Seven men escaped from Westhofen, but just one of them George Heissler will surmount all the obstacles to find at last, to materialize this dream.

This movie tells us about the multiple difficulties that George will have to feat in order to survive. Struggling and absorbing episode based on real facts in Germany 1936, when dissent was already considered a serious evidence of sedition and betrayal against the totalitarian state.

Impeccable acting of Spencer Tracy and fine direction of Fred Zinnemman.

Movie is long but it sure does give you a view of how poorly people were treated. It was great to see how their belief kept them strong

No one really survives the Holocaust;in some way or another a person, nomatter how they escaped that onslaught are altered forever in their relationships to themselves and others;that is the central theme of this 1992 EMMY AWARD WINNER for outstanding movie of the year.A young Kyra Sedgwick is shown to already be the fine actress that fifteen years later will earn her GOLDEN GLOBES.The story is definitely light fare as far as Holocaust related movies go.Good companion films to MISS ROSE WHITE would be A CALL TO REMEMBER and AN AMERICAN RHAPSODY which both explore the post-war dilemna of family and assimilation. For a foreign film that is similar I suggest MENDEL (Norway).

VHS : The Prince of Egypt
This 1998 animated smash hit musical about the Biblical Exodus combines all the drama, authenticity of costumes and location, and emotion of the time period from whence mankind was ultimately given the Ten Commandments.
The commencement provides a view of an initially arid, serene, and timeless place whose calm is abruptly shattered by the brutality of the ancient Egyptian slave system and the anguished Israelis nearly crushed under its weight.
The voice of the late Israeli folk singer Ofra Haza takes over from the gospel choir's vocal lament of the Hebrew's plight, as the young slave mother Yocheved, who along with her older son and daughter (the latter of whom is voiced by Eden Riegel) scurry to protect their infant son and brother from legalized infancticide.
When so many women were unable to, Yocheved succeeded, ... Read More
