VHS : Pride & Prejudice (1995) (6pc) (Coll Box)
The title of the book and the film never seemed to appeal to me. When Amazon had this as a Gold Box Deal I thought 1,500 reviews couldn't be wrong.

WOW, I love it. Mr. Darcy such a character. You cannot stand his attitude when you first meet him but you love his looks. I knew Miss Elizabeth loved and hated him right from the the start. Being a romantic at heart the looks they exchange.....hmmmm young love.

If you have never seen it, this is a very nice edition. The film is beautiful in sight and feelings. The costumes are so finely done. I highly recommend this edition.

I will note that with an HDTV and upconverting DVD player it is very nearly in HD, considering it was made in 1996 I consider this a very high quality set.

VHS : The Thorn Birds - The Complete Miniseries
I first saw this series when I was a child and found it to be wonderful. It still stands as a terrific miniseries, even if it is melodramatic. Ward is radiant, Chamberlain is excellent, Stanwyck and Simmons are remarkable. Incredibly tragic and romantic.

VHS : A Town Like Alice
I loved this series, when I first watched in on television back in the '80s. Every couple of years I pull the tape off the shelf and re-watch it.

This is not just for Bryan Brown fans, but for the Gordon Jackson fans in the crowd. Jackson's portrayal of a man who falls in love too late in life, is very touching.

I would love to see it available on DVD!

VHS : Roots 6 Video Box Set
I was a month short of 9 years of age when Roots was first broadcast on TV. Til only recently I had never ever seen it. I heard a lot about it but never actually sat down to watch it. I was recently at our town library and decided to take volume 1 home. I was somewhat excited about it as I sat down to watch.

In the first volume I found the idealization of Kunta Kinte's tribe and, except for the Ed Asner character, most white characters were 1 dimensional, to be a little too difficult to swallow.
However I continue to watch.

In the subsequent volumes as Kunta grew up, married and raised Kizzy, the writing of the characters began to show some depth. Frankly in those episodes I was pleased that not all white people were evil masochists. I liked Robert Reed's ... Read More

VHS : Poldark 1 (6 VHS Boxed Set)
I had the VHS tapes of Poldark I and Poldark 2, but gave them away as I no longer have a VCR and I was sure they would be made available on DVD sooner or later. Woe is me, that hasn't happened yet and I'm hysterical now that I don't have the tapes because they would be worth buying a VCR to see them. There must be others like me who would relish seeing this fabulous series on DVD. Please, whoever's in charge of such things, release this series on DVD and it will sell like hotcakes.

VHS : Godfather Trilogy 1901-1980
This trilogy is by far the most excilerating ever. It tells the story of the rise and fall of the Corleone crime family. Although this is a fictional story, It is one of the best stories that portrays the acts of a real Mafia family. After Vito Corleone(Michael's father) dies, it is up to Michael to take up the family business. Michael finds himself turning into one of the most feared gangters of his time. Watch this action packed film with plenty of mind blowing suprises. It is an all around great trilogy staring;Al Pacino,Marlin Brando,Robert Deniro and other great actors.
