The issue of this Pink Panther compendium is rather disappointing for a few important reasons. I knew that RETURN OF THE PINK PANTHER would probably not be included for legal reasons and 1968's INSPECTOR CLOUSEAU with Alan Akin as Clouseau as well, but I did expect to have CURSE OF THE PINK PANTHER and SON OF THE PINK PANTHER included. THE PINK PANTHER is a film richly textured with well defined characters, plot, dialogue, production design and location photography. Niven, Sellers and Wagner give very fine performances, which seem to remain fresh and vibrant to this day. Images of the Cortina ski lodge, the costume ball, the wild car chase and especially the animated Pink Panther are part of the iconic cinematic contribution from this film and Henry Mancini's theme and score are ... In my opinion, this is the worst movie ever made. Plan 9 From Outer Space is like Lawrence Of Arabia compared to Glen or Glenda. I gave it 2 stars because Bela Lugosi's parts are funny. Starts with Bela in a laboratory making some ridiculous Ed Wood speech containing classic quotes as "MAN IS WRONG BECAUSE HE DOES RIGHT. RIGHT BECAUSE HE DOES WRONG! PULL DA STRINGS!" Then the film is all over the place with stock footage, Wood dressed in women clothes, etc. Some whiney voice saying "If the creator wanted us to fly, he'd given us wings." I don't get this movie. I think it might be Ed Wood trying to describe his subconscious on film? I dunno. If you can get through all 70 minutes of this you can get through anything. And those stupid newspaper headlines. I bought this collection after seeing Sabrina one night on tv. The three films included are really just beautiful stories, but each one is drastically different than the last. They've made me fall in love with Audrey Hepburn. I watch them over and over again, each movie is good for different moods. The best part of any Audrey Hepburn film, imho is her personal style. I find myself trying out scarves, pearls, and other feminine items I never would have thought - all because she wore them so well. Anyways, I just love this set. It's one of the few DVD sets I would not want to get rid of.
