VHS : The Thorn Birds - The Complete Miniseries
Although most agree that this was a gripping storyline and a classic miniseries, there were some people that criticized Rachel Ward. I would like to point out the following:

1) She was extraordinarily beautiful, hard to look away from when she was on-screen. It was plausible that a priest or any other man would be drawn to her. I can't imagine a better-cast Meggie than Rachel Ward.

2) Ward did a remarkable job of portraying convincing love scenes with a gay actor (Richard Chamberlain). I do not know if the cast was aware of his proclivity. If nothing else, Ward's gaydar may have signaled her to the truth of Chamberlain's orientation. Both actors deserve credit for pulling this off.

3) The reality on the set was that Ward had found her "masculine ... Read More

VHS : Stephen King's The Stand (Boxed Set)
The Stand is impressive in many ways possible! I know the movie is 6 hours in length put it pulled me in after the first episode. It had a great apocalyptic opening where it can possibly happen in real life with the virus and all. The second half jumps into this supernatural realm where people dare not go and I find that fascinating. I got this movie from a 5 movie collection by Artisan (also had Cujo, Golden Years, The Langoliers, and Thinner) and I received the 2-disc version which is good but its probably better than the flipper disc. I despise flipper discs because they get scratched and broken so easily that its not funny. Lucky me I guess. This would be a great DVD title to come out on Blu-Ray. Imagine the entire 6-hour film on one disc with no flipping or changing. The Golden Years was an ... Read More

VHS : Out on a Limb Miniseries
Shirley Maclaine's willingness to risk ridicule with her candor is to be commended. She powerfully states what many people fear to speak of. This book inspired me and in fact, if the title had not been taken, may very well have been the title for "Blessings In The Mire." Because she is such a celebrity figure, Maclaine risked more than an average joe. By expressing her beliefs, she opened herself up to the skeptics, the critics, the hecklers. If for nothing else, Ms. Maclaine should be commended for her candor and bavery, but with this statement aside, the book stands on its own for being extremely thought provoking, for creating dialog between believers and skeptics, and for being an extremely well written volume. KUDOS to to Shirley Maclaine for her skill and talent as a proficient author. She is ... Read More

VHS : Holocaust (The Mini-Series)
I saw the miniseries HOLOCAUST as a child. I couldn't believe that people could be so cruel. I never forgot it.
I also remember the heroism. You know, it really is an uplifting film.
I lent the tape to a teacher friend of mine, and her students got it. They asked questions. They wanted to learn more about this period in history. They wanted to know more about man's inhumanity to man.
I'm going to keep lending that tape. I want people to learn.

VHS : Pearl (The Miniseries)
Yes this is just a big soap opera, and most of the stories are just filler to set up the attack, but there is a strong feeling of a throw back to films of bygone days here that makes me like this even though i know it stinks. The attack last longer in this than it did in real life, and they keep leaping from it to some more soap opera filler that get very annoying after a while. The cast is ok but with all the corny line they have it's not really fair to say they are not good , they do what they can. I grew up in the 70's and these miniseries were a steady T.V. diet of the time,so some of my fondness for this mess is because it takes me back to younger days, and as such some will like it for that others will be less kind .
