Many think that Sean Connery was the first actor to impersonate the role of the sophisticated British agent; when in fact he wasn't. Sean was the first actor to play bond in a "theatrical" movie. But in 1954, 8 years before Dr. No hit the screens, 007 was introduced for the first time on Television broadcast. The movie was called Casino Royale, based on the first novel by Ian Fleming. The movie was adapted from this novel for a CBS broadcast, with the hopes of adapting more of Ian Fleming's novels on TV...but the broadcast was pretty much bashed by critics and ignored by viewers. My son's vocabulary is insanely advanced (at 16 months old he had 50 words), and I think this video series has helped. He was a super preemie so therapists were urging us to stay on top of his development (at one point his speech seemed behind). One therapist recommended this video series a few months ago. We play these videos (alternating Volumes 1 & 2) for him once every couple of days. He's suprisingly entertained by them (there's no story, just pictures of things while a voice names them: Baby, Ball!) But he soaks it up, and recently started talking up a storm, pointing to things and yelling Lion! etc. Of course the videos don't get all the credit. I constantly narrate to him. But I highly recommended this video series.

This video is a good mix of atmosphere and music. Music is a blend of traditional pieces, with bits of fireplace crackling interspersed. The fireplace crackling fades to the background and does not interrupt the music. The fire is lively enough to keep you interested. It was perfect to bring the season to a condo in Florida. The video will play again next Christmas. Excellent choice.

It's hard to decide where to start describing this movie. A man tricked into becoming a soldier in the union army (Janssen) attempts to escape the prison camp he's in. The first time is a failure and so the movie begins. He does 30 days in "the box" and tells the jailer his time was up "three days ago". Janssen (Macho) does manage to escape on his next attempt. This man has had all he can take of what life has dished out to him. That's the only reason I can think of why he would kill a man (Carradine) over a bottle of champagne. Carradine and Jean Seberg had just been married. She witnesses his death from the second story of their honeymoon suite. The marshall of the town decides Macho acted in self defense but Seberg goes after him and offers a sizeable reward. The ending is sad and ironic but ... Read More

I bought this DVD because our child is raised in a bilingual home (English-French). The concept of a multilingual DVD is great but I did not expect the quality of the DVD to be that bad. The spelling of some words is wrong and the pronunciation too: it is not a native French speaker. I am looking forward to a DVD that would be multilingual but with higher standards. This is mediocre. If your goal is to teach your child many languages, do not get this DVD.

We have the first three tapes in this series, and I play them interchangeably for our son, who is just over a year old. I found it frustrating that a complex term like "bulldozer" is included, while the baby is still working on learning the much simpler "truck." I mean, why are we getting into such complex distinctions of types of vehicles? I'd have preferred that the vocabulary list stick to words most likely to be needed -- and reinforced -- by everyday living. Only if the kid lives in a construction zone would "bulldozer" seem necessary. I felt the same way about "helicopter" -- but then again, when my son watches the shot of the chopper taking off, he's highly amused. So I have mixed feelings. The whole tape keeps his attention nonstop, and I like the way they break up the pattern of repetition so that the pacing is varied. ... Read More
