This is a wonderful two-disc edition. I only owned this movie on two videos so you can just imagine the excitement I had getting all the extras that went with this! It is so worth owning and the price is wonderful for such a treasure. It gives great background and is most enjoyable to see all the kids in the movie as grown ups and to also hear Julie Andrews speaking with Christopher Plummer. A true winner!

If you like old movies, this is a good one. The story is not that great but the dancing & singing are very good. You realize what a good singer Howard Keel is & I didn't even know Jane Wyatt cold sing, and she is very good.

VHS : Show Boat (1936)
This is an out-and-out classic that should be permanently available on DVD. So where is it? Surely, MGM must know the value of their product, and this one is worth its weight in gold-dust - the entire cast is superb (other reviewers have named them all, so I wont repeat them), it's in beautiful black-and-white, it gives a much fuller version of the score than the lame 50's remake, and it's much better sung, plus it's got period charm by the bucketful. Yet every time I do a search, all I can come up with is Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson. Please!!!!!

5.Student Prince (1954) starring: Ann Blyth, Edmund Purdom, John Ericson, Louis Calhern, Edmund Gwenn

VHS : Student Prince (1954)
I was dragged to this movie as a young boy. What young man wants to see a movie with a singing prince and a love story? It didn't take long for me to enjoy the story of male bonding by singing and drinking in the beer garden soon to be followed by a sword fight.
I can almost imagine myself serenading the beautiful and sexy barmaid (Ann Bylthe), especially with the flawless voice from GOD(Mario Lanza) lip-synced to near perfection by the prince(Edmund Purdom).
All this plus an arrogant jerk is shown the error of his ways. Oh yeah, and the love story is classic.
With 20-20 hindsight it's obvious that losing Lanza, the actor, was a stroke of luck.

6.Rose Marie (1936) starring: Jeanette MacDonald, Nelson Eddy, Reginald Owen, Allan Jones, James Stewart

We received it from NetFlix, she watched it 3x in a row! Bought it for a Christmas present. Gene Kelly is fabulous, and Donald O'Connor's athleticism and stamina in "Make 'Em Laugh" is amazing. Great song and dance numbers for any age.

I know this movie was made a long time ago but the blackface routine for the song, "Abraham", is absolutely insulting. I wouldn't want my kids to see this movie. I can't believe that anyone could have watched this movie when it came out and not be embarressed.
