I found apocalypse zero really sweet. Its like a mix of Devil-Man and Fist of the North Star, with its apocalyptic future, Henshin-Hero style heros and villains, and lots of moves that almost magically make your people explode. There is an amazing amount of gore and explicit content in both volumes, that I wonder if it should really only be getting a 16 up rating...but then again, I don't care much for ratings overall. The character designs seem almost unfitting for the fast paced and gorey fights, which make it even more interesting. Only problem I had is that the story seemed kinda rushed. By the end of the first tape (this one) you realise that they put the original story of Apocalypse Zero and put into a trash compactor to squeeze it all into these 2 tapes. Ah... Apocalypse Zero... What can I say besides the fact that there were so many loopholes in this story I was utterly mystifyed as to the point of this ridiculous series. Normally, violence doesn't bother me, and being a fan of such titles as Berserk and Akira, I figured that Apocalypse Zero wouldn't be too bad. Boy, was I WRONG. In fact, it was just disgusting. The whole time I was wondering "What the heck is going on? Who's that? WHAT'S that, no less." For one, Harara's gender is IMPOSSIBLE to distinguish. Between the flying guts and a horrific display of tasteless nudity, I almost didn't realize that there was no explaination for Harara's hating of humanity. And what's with the metal things embedded in Hakugo and Harara's flesh? Characters have more entrails than their bodies can POSSIBLY ... Read More
