How can it be that Walter Matthau's best performance, especially a comedy performance, is not available on DVD? It's a shame, because this is arguably the most brilliant dark comedy from that wonderful golden age of grown-up films from the mid 60s to the mid 70s. This movie is way too funny and brilliant to be this undercover and cult. Elaine May is to comedy what Coppola and Scorsese were to drama. Her writing is as good as comedy writing gets, and her performance gives a glimpse at how wonderful a comic actress she really is. No B.S. either. This one of the great comedies. Can't believe it's not on dvd. Not to be missed. I remember seeing this on tv when I was a little girl and thinking, that is a wonderful world those two people live in. It played the midnight show in college and the crowd ... Read More

One of my favourite films. This has incredible one liners, great slapstick, Bill Murray at his best and a really strange but completely great premise behind the whole thing.

Superb.

VHS : Annie Hall
I was discussing favorite films with a friend (East coast Jewish), who raved about Annie Hall. I said I didn't like Woody Allen. I'd seen a couple of his movies and wasn't impressed. She said, "Well, there is a lot of New York humor in it, maybe you wouldn't know the references." OK, I AM from Ohio, but I am NOT a rube! I really wanted to tell her off, but I watched Annie instead. Then I thanked her for offending me, because this movie is wonderfully quirky and very funny. Since then, I have had to watch every Woody Allen movie. Not all of them are good, it's true, but some are absolute gems. Annie Hall is a gem.

It's a romantic comedy about an unlikely couple, dialogue-heavy, and sprinkled with flashbacks of Alvy's life before Annie. You must listen to the dialogue to appreciate ... Read More

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn's chemistry keep this predictable, but likable comedy afloat. Hawn plays a rich selfish snob who's life needs purpose and Russell plays a blue collar guy who gives her life purpose. After a run in that leaves Russell stiffed for a job he does for Hawn, Russell finds a way to get paid and then some! The story is contrived to say the least, but the kids and the rest of the cast seem to be having fun in this slightly crude and cute comedy. The DVD is pretty basic with a trailer being it's only extra. The DVD transfer is good, nothing special, but the film is entertaining and fun.

New interpretations of some classic Our Gang bits, a few cameos and decent production value. Its a fun little movie and the kids are fun to watch. They're poor actors, just like the originals, although the Spanky and Alfalfa that people remember from the late 30s were probably more polished than any of these kids.

My only complaint is the DVD edition seems to be the same edited version as the old VHS. There are a few gags that are either incomplete, or missing altogether, but you can kind of tell where they belong (like the gentlemen walking into the bank). There is also a funny extended trial scene that is much abbreviated in this version. I remember seeing the missing scenes on TV oddly enough. If they ever re-release this movie I hope it will be a more complete edit.

6.Tootsie starring: Dustin Hoffman, Jessica Lange, Teri Garr, Dabney Coleman, Sydney Pollack

VHS : Tootsie
The first time I watched Tootsie was when I was 12 years old, heard this Stephen Bishop song on the TV, and surprised to see an oldmaid clutching a baby and looking admiringly at the baby's mom. The song seems out of place.... [After I finished that second half of the movie, I rewound the Betamax tape--my brother had already watched it full--and re-play the whole thing just for me.]

But later, how Dustin Hoffman made me believe he was a legitimate old lady in heavy makeup, in love with Jessica Lange but cant express it, was amazing.

This is one of the first movie that demonstrated great acting to me. Even Sydney Pollack's (the director himself) banters with Michael Dorsey and Dorothy Michaels are remarkably funny, something that many other movies has imitated afterwards.

It's ... Read More

Yes, I am one of "those girls". I can watch this over and over and still swoon over the sheer cuteness of a heartfelt comedy that happily takes the ridiculous in stride. This is Sandra Bullock at the top of romance game playing an orphaned subway employee whose crush conveniently gets mugged into a coma on her watch. What follows is a sweet comedy about a girl without a family suddenly thrown into one.

First of all, what a great comedy!! How many people get sucked into buying a home (thinking it's such a great deal) only to find out it will cost them more than buying an expensive home to begin with. I love Tom Hanks and his performance in this film was great once again.

If you're looking for a good laugh and have had some fixer upper woes this is definately the movie for you!

This is a great movie. It is a great romantic comedy with the main character, played by Jack Nicholson, has OCD. It is sad/dramatic at times but overall it is pretty amusing. I think the best actor in the entire movie is the dog. The dog is just amazing. I absolutely love this movie and have watched it over a dozen times. It never gets old.
