As a massive fan of the TV series, and having missed this film version over the last 40 years I watched this tonight with considerable expectation. Sadly I was mostly disappointed. The film is too long with an over reliance on film of a Tiger Moth, which whilst its is cleverly done, with real footage and radio controlled models is not in keeping with the TV series. The long Skyship flight was over extended and the traditional main characters were largely under-used. That said some of the TV series strong points wrere still evident: Good music, occasional humerous moments and clever models with a particularly impressive explosion at one point. Join Scott, Virgil, John, Gordon, Alan & Brains as they fight evil and rescue hapless victims from the clutches of Hood!

And the hits just keep on coming! More wonderous adventures courtesy of the Tracy Family and their International Rescue outfit. Probably the most brilliant thing about this whole series is that most of the character voices are created by English actors using impecable American accents (Shane Rimmer, American-born, being a notable exception). I recently saw a horribly adapted edited version of a couple of Thunderbirds episodes where REAL American voices were overdubbed: A horrible mistake! These videos are the real macoy - accept no substitutes. Sit back, suspend your disbelief, wallow in SUPERMARIONATION and have a fab time. (Also, check out UFO and Space 1999!)

They're puppets! Well of course they are. But don't be fooled. The Thunderbirds series is quite possibly in the top five cult TV programs that has ever come out of England. Re-released on the BBC about a decade ago after it's initial run in the mid-60's and hailed by people like me as a true masterpiece of its genre. And dig those crazy machines! This set has one of the most amazing episodes - "Attack of the Alligators" where our little marionettes are chased around the minature sets by real baby alligators. Inspired! I can't wait for the American release of "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons", the entire series available as a box set in Britain for the holidays.
