Space Jam as a movie has always held a special place in my heart. Being 12 years old as of this review, I have to say this movie has aged really well. Starring a real comic legend in Bill Murray and an acting great, Danny DeVito doing a voice over; this movie was destined to succeed. The real surprise for everyone was the performance of Michael Jordan. Although not exactly Sidney Poitier he did his job of being the face of this movie and when you make a movie with basketball as the main focus, you couldn't not have Michael Jordan. The Basketball Diaries project did get made, except with Leonardo DiCaprio instead of Phoenix. At the risk of being typecast River was set to follow that by playing the poet Arthur Rimbaud in Total Eclipse. DiCaprio picked up that role as well. The Basketball Diaries turned out pretty well for Leo, and was also a good break for Mark Wahlberg. I started watching this tape when i was like 7 years old; that and my Larry Bird: Living Legend tape. Both are classics if you're a die hard fan. But they both broke, so I repurchased them recently on Amazon. First of all, this tape was released in 86, not 90. And the era that was "magic" was probably 84-90. This is seriously though magically nostalgic. I can't describe but by saying this: it's so good I've downloaded some of the songs just by themselves.

OK, some of the moves are amazing, credit has got to be given to the players/showmen, but the DVD as a whole is definitely not worth the $18 and the time you'll spend watching it. For most of the footage is of the fans going crazy over the wild moves on the court, and off it, and the players fooling around in their tour bus! Some might enjoy it, but it certainly shouldn't be considered a Street basketball DVD, for true basketball only covers a small part of it! The whole DVD can actually be summed up in less than 10 minute, if all the BS was cut out.

Hoop Dreams is an amazing film. Not only is it the best documentary of all time but one of the greatest movies of all time. I was amazed at how director Steve James was able to get this on film so perfectly. The story follows two inner city kids, Arthur Agee and William Gates, and their dream of making it to the NBA and out of the ghetto. The doc was filmed over five years we watch these two boys at fourteen grow to be young men and the ups and downs they go through. Viewers also get a look into the life of how kids are scouted and the harsh realities that go along with it but ultimately it's an uplifting story about overcoming your struggles and preserving. Mike Krzyzewski's video is one of the best videos I have brought to date. He starts with some basic drills with kids and then with Tommy Amaker, his point guard from Duke during the 84-87 seasons. He moves to more advanced drills until he teaches a five on five drill. For coaches, the drills themselves are worth the money for this video. You have to watch this video over and over to understand some of his advanced points. Watching this video will give you some insight to how one of the best college coaches run their practice.
