VHS : Geisha Boy
In THE GEISHA BOY, Jerry Lewis provides a performance with equal shades of subtlety and comic brilliance. The colourful backdrop of Japan is a treat to see, and the supporting cast is equally fine.

Small-time magician Gilbert "The Great" Wooley (Jerry Lewis) and his rabbit Harry are part of a USO tour of Japan, but the visit takes an unexpected turn when Harry catches the attention of a shy little orphaned Japanese boy and his concerned aunt. Gilbert is the only one who seems to draw the boy out of his sorrows, and pretty soon a romance has blossomed with Aunt Kimi (Nobu McCarthy), too. But will Gilbert be able to leave everything in order to be with them?

THE GEISHA BOY allowed Jerry Lewis the opportunity to play some dramatic material; his scenes with Robert Hirano ... Read More

VHS : 1998 Official World Series Video - New York Yankees vs. San Diego Padres
The Yankees are my team. I adopted them as a child in the 1950s when I grew up in New York and inspite of their success and unpopularity they remain my team. I have seen the dynasty of the 1950s and early 60s. Their fall in 1965 and resurrection in 1976. After 1981 they suffered a drought until 1996 and Joe Torre constructed his best team in 1998. While Sosa and McGwire were annihilating Maris' home run record the Yankees quietly amassed one of the best winning records in the history of the game and the San Diego Padres made it to the World Series. The Yankees had it all pitching, hitting, defense and power. The Padres were no match for this ream and got swept. It is arguable whether this was the greatest Yankee team I ever witnessed. The 1961 Yankees behind the home run power of Mantle and Maris and ... Read More

VHS : Babe Ruth Story
This is a documentary. The history, only romanced a little by Hollywood.
I never saw Babe play. I am 61. But my father sat right behind him in center field, at the Stadium in New York. This movie was one of the first movies I ever saw. The nuns played it for us once a year, at school, because of the message at the end of the film. Me, as a regular human, give the film 5 stars. This is on my "Top-Five-of-all-time" list

VHS : 1995 World Series: Atlanta Braves vs. Cleveland Indians
For many years the Braves had Chipper Jones and the great pitching if Smoltz, Glavine and Maddux. These stars, a supporting cast Bobby Cox and the best pitching coach in the National League were constants that brought the Braves a consistent string of East Division Championship and numerous National League Championships. But when it came to the World Series something would happen to cause them to lose the World Series often close exciting series like th 1991 series against Minnesota or 1996 and 1999 against the Yankees. But during this great run 1995 was the only series they actually won! This may come as a surprise to many baseball fans.

VHS : 1997 World Series Official Video: Florida Marlins vs. Cleveland Indians, October 18-26, 1997
This was an unlikely scenario. The Cleveland Indians, very popular with the fans and comfortable with the new ballpark, Jacobs Field had beaten the defending champion Yankees. The Yankees had won with Mariano Rivera as rhe set-up man and John Wettland as the closer. In 1997 Rivera took over the closer role and started to show signs of how great a closer he would become. But in the final game with the Yanks ahead and Rivera in to close it out Sandy Alomar Jr. hit the game winning home run.

With Alomar and Thome and the tough hurdle to get to the series Cleveland looked like a sure thing ro win it. But hear can the Marlins a team with money that had bought star players like Pudge Rodriguez. They squeaked by their National League opponents and stuck it out with Cleveland until in the final game ... Read More

VHS : MLB - Maximum Bloopers & Amazing Plays
This is a fun video, no question about it.

The boys on my team still remind me of the case of the ground ball that was literally "blown" foul. By the way, it's legal.
Or team-mates putting shaving cream on top of one of the players hats.
Or, better yet, some of the truly amazing and great plays in this video.

That was the upside.

The downside is that there's too much talking at times, with some of the players trying to do comedy bits just for the camera. The bits are dated, and at least for us here outside the US, are complete non-sequitor. Ugh. Leave this, and just give us baseball.

When I first saw this autobiography of Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris stars, it was like being there with them.
Growing up in Brooklyn, NY, and Joe Pepitone (another Yankee local scouted and signed with the Yankees, his brothers Billy and Jimmy were our neighbors. I lived that era and thought I knew everything about every Yankee. This film, I have sought for years and now that I immediately purchased it through Amazon.com, I can tell any fan of baseball that is has all the fun, drama, trials and problems of any normal person that brought tears to my eyes of what went on during and after their professional careers. The class and charachter that more then describes those great players were my idols. But meeting them in person, in the dugout, never, ever gave me anything else but goosebumps.
