VHS : S-Club-7 in Miami 1
If you are reading this and wondering what the heck a "S Club 7" actually is, then you are probably a fan of either Rachel Stevens or Hannah Spearritt looking for things they did early in their careers. Rachel and Hannah appear to be the only members of the cast who have been visible in the industry since the BBC show ended and the group broke up.

I say "group" because the premise of the thing is that they are a seven member musical group-imagine "The A-Teens" playing the main characters on "Hangtime" and you will have a pretty good idea of the concept. Like "Hangtime" they placed a premium on diversity although they shot themselves in the foot by turning the black guy into a "step-and-fetch-it" caricature who is patronized by the other six members of the group.

Belatedly, I planned to write a review of EOD. However, I find that the rest of you got here first, and have written well-deserved high praise!

I first saw EOD here in the US on a syndicated basis. They chopped it up into two parts, and cut a lot of little "unnecessary" bits (like Craven looking out a second storey window and seeing McCroon stepping out of the trees with a shotgun). The sound quality was fair to poor, also.

We eventually got hold of the 2-cassette VHS copy, and caught all the things we had missed.

This is bravura work, all around. It's a superb cast, with great writing, classic direction, a fine score. If you're not familiar, read the reviews below, and see this, in uncut form if you possibly can. And as Darius Jedburgh said, "It was ... Read More

VHS : Miracle of Birth
In America, they always try to scare you with horror stories about birth and how "safe" an epidural is (even though it is a drug, it does pass through the placenta, and it can cause your baby to be irritable for up to six weeks). In America, they need to show more videos like this one. Check out some other great books like Immaculate Deception by Suzanne Arms, and Ina May's Midwifery book. It truly makes me cry...the things they do to moms and babies in America.

This series ran and re-ran on public television interminably, and I always loved it. There must have been hundreds of episodes, and I think I saw each a couple of dozen times. I never tired of them. This set includes some of the best of them, and I guarantee that they will give great pleasure and endless laughs.

Anyone who loves British humor will love this series. If you have not seen them, I envy you because it is still in front of you.

Right off, I have to admit that this version is very faithful to the orinal novel. I cannot find any fault with it in that way. If you want something that feels like the novel done word-for-word, this is the one. In that aspect, I really enjoyed it. There were, however, some stylistic flaws that got in my way.

First thing is the cinematography. It was terrible. I understand that this was made for TV in 1983, but that understanding only makes it seem a little bit better. It is kind of like watching a home video. I suppose that I have gotten used to even TV movies trying to reach the level of cinematic excellence in filming that films have now. It threw me off a little bit because the filming looked a lot like that done for soap operas. I am not a fan of soap operas, and at times it was hard to get away ... Read More
