VHS : Fantasia (Walt Disney's Masterpiece)
I have to admit, I'm an avid listener of classical music. So it's a small wonder why Disney's Fantasia is one of my favorite films. Every music sequence is pure gold (except maybe the Pastoral sequence).

Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach = My second favorite sequence, it is a mixture of abstract colors & images, live action orchestral playing, and Stokowski's acclaimed orchestration of Bach's organ music.

Nutcracker Suite by Peter Illich Tchaikovsky = Although I'm not a fan of Tchaikovsky's ballet music, this one is very good and entertaining. The dancing of the fairies and flowers and mushrooms make for a heck of a good time for the whole family.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Paul Dukas = This is probably the most exciting rendition ... Read More

It had been a while since I had seen this movie, but you could tell that the quality was much better! I had forgotten how funny and weird and wacky "Nightmare" is; then I remembered that it was a Tim Burton movie.

VHS : The Jungle Book (Fully Restored 30th Anniversary Limited Edition)
The Jungle Book is one of those Disney classics that I never ever get tired of watching! It was the first ever Disney cartoon that my parents got me when I was a child. The characters in this masterpiece are wonderful and each and every one of them has a unique style and personality. Kudos to Rudyard Kipling for writing this beautiful story that will live on in our hearts for many years to come!

I did it. I bought a Disney movie -- I mean a kids-oriented one. And then... I actually showed it to my kids (first I watched it again, just to make sure).

This is so totally out of character for me, that it *does* deserve a gasp of surprise.

Because Disney. DISNEY! No positive male role-models DISNEY! Every male character is a fool, a tool, a slob, or a villain DISNEY! Forget about little boys, because only girls are celebrated DISNEY! And yes, I still think that is the case for Disney. And I wonder who all those little girls will grow up to marry, when all the boys are fools, tools, slobs, or villains.

But Julie Andrews. JULIE ANDREWS! Mary Poppins!

So I cracked. And I bought it.

And I had a few twinges on my view-through ... Read More

I have all of Barbra Streisand movies on Dvd except for this one. This is one of the biggest mysteries. It probably is Barbra's best film ever and it is still not out on Dvd. What are they waiting for? I wish someone knew the answer to this question.

I caught this movie on TV this morning, had never heard of the book.

Whoa, where to start!

From the opening moments, too much exposition of who, what, where, why and when instead of peppering it out sparingly through the movie.

Everyone is a walking cliche'. I winced when Graham Greene first came on screen dressed like what Hollywood thinks an Indian should look like, he being quiet and so attuned to the "spirits" he could barely speak. I hated that the director chose to "tell" of the Trails of Tears instead of "showing" it to us via flashbacks. In fact I zoned out during this 5 minute disseration and never heard the end.

Little Tree is 8 years old in this story, talks with the wisdom of a 50 year old. Yuk! I HATE that! He speaks in phrases that belong in a Hallmark ... Read More

Excellent performance by all the actors and opera singers. It was a very good idea to transport the classic opera into a movies version. This adaptation is not new, nevertheless, is a masterpiece for all times. Congratulations !

This is by far the best version of "Pride and Prejudice". I believe I have seen every one of them and none compares. Laurence Olivier was great of course as Darcy, but Colin Firth has completely captured the character. I doubt that any one will ever be able to portray Darcy better.
I am extremely satified that I purchased the 10th Anniversary Collector's Edition even though I all ready had the original DVD of the same produecton. It is definitely well worth the price. I strongly recommend it to every one. The DVDs come in a beautifully designed case, and I thoroughly enjoyed the accompanying behind-the-scenes disc. Even though Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle were busy making other movies and could not be on it, the remaining cast members were very entertaining. The accompanying book, "The Making of Pride and ...
