VHS : Sign Of Zorro
The Sign of Zorro is one of my favorite films. I have watched it so many times I almost know it by heart. Don Diego De la Vega comes home from Spain to see military force had taken over california. Diego with his faithful servant Bernardo and his trustworthy horse tornado becomes zorro the fox. Who rides to save the people from harm in the dark of the night, while pretending to be interested only in books and music during the day. But when his father gets in trouble and covers not in sight zorro must risk his life to save his father.
Nobody played zorro like Guy Williams. This flim is worth much more than you will ever pay for it.You will never regret buying it.

VHS : Batman & Robin
In the original "Batman" & "Batman Returns," the storylines (or what shreds there were) were overwhelmed by the comic-book schtick left over from the wonderful 1960's "Batman" series. The schtick was fine for the series, but for the films...AUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. GOOD GRIEF! In "Batman Forever," Akiva Goldsman took over the screenwriting duties and the schtick was eliminated, giving way to a firmly grounded storyline. The same with its excellent follow-up "Batman & Robin" (which I fail to see why it performed badly at the box office). Sadly, the franchise went into hibernation after this great film. There was only one thing missing (for which I would've given it 4/1/2 stars, but I decided on giving it the full 5, since this site doesn't allow reviewers to give half-star ... Read More

VHS : Batman (1989)
Keaton and Basinger are very bland, and some new guy named Knoxx is all over the place and Gordon ain't in much. And the Joker upstages Batman. But the dark feel would rub off on many comic-book adaptions, and the big success would lead to more superhero films. (For better or worse.) And Jack Nicholson is very good, amd the set and score are amazing. Worth a rent.

VHS : The Saint: In New York/Strikes Back
Hayward did New York. A nice double feature with "Strikes Back" starring George Sanders on the same tape. Robert Osborne even does an intro. for TCM. Mr. Hayward is pretty good & I admit he puts me in mind of James Bond more than Mr. Sanders. He's cruel & charming, kills with cool dispatch, yet he is still one of the good guys. The Law is ambivalent about The Saint/Simon Templar. He is somewhat of a Robin Hood in that he steals from criminals, helps law enforcement but takes a cut for himself. In dispair New York City hires him (in secret) to rid itself of criminal gangs that control the city & are corrupting the courts. He has a list of gang bosses & goes to work. Some die easy some not so. He falls in love with the moll(Kay Sutton) who saves his life (twice).

VHS : The Saint: In London/Double Trouble
The Saint in London was a nice surprise for me. I enjoy these early light hearted detective movies and the Saint did not disappoint me. George Sanders looked the part of a sophisticated, but rugged hero. He is wealthy, but he easily engages people of every social status. The give and take with the female hero was much like the Thin Man series that I understand proceeded this film. The Saint, though, is not made for marriage for which he makes clear to his girlfriend. He is the stereotypic "Man's Man" and this is a classic Saturday afternoon movie.

VHS : Adv of Batman & Robin: Two-Face
The Paul Dini-produced Batman series perhaps does more to humanize the character than other television and screen versions have to date. One important element, Batman's relationship with Harvey Dent/Two-Face, plays an important role in these stories. As Bruce Wayne's friend, Harvey Dent has always played an important role in BW/Batman's life. Yet Batman can only seek treatment for his emotionally disturbed friend; Dent/Two-Face keeps Batman's distinction between justice and punishment clearly defined. Batman is a better hero because he learns through attempting to help Harvey Dent and preventing Two-Face's criminality that justice cannot always rely on permanent fixes; it, like freedom, requires constant vigilence.
Just a quick note here (I've added this note to every tape in this series I have reviewed) ... Read More
