VHS : Drunken Master 2
Jackie Chan truly delivers a spectacular performance. In the final battle scene Jackie takes it to the extreme.

This movie will surely become a classic in the martial art genre, in the pure tradition of the Bruce Lee style.

VHS : Temptation of a Monk
"Temptation of a Monk" is one title in my prized collections, along
with "Brazil", "Das Boot", "Fisher King", and "Wallace and Grommet"...

The movie takes us on a transformational journey with the protagonist General. Though he commands the fate of hundreds of thousands of people, and even the fate of nations, he was caught helplessly in a turmoil caused by royal sibling rivlary, where the prize of wrong alliance is death. After the coup, his subordinate saught the General's death to avenge the betrayed, now dead prince. His mother then denouced his failure to protect the dead prince, and thus tarnished the family reputation as loyal subjects. She expressed her denouncement through suicide, which the General witnessed. He soon became a fugitive general pursued by the newly ... Read More

VHS : Jackie Chan's Who Am I?
there is not one decent actor in this film, oher than chan. without him it would be a zero star. it was as if they were freshman in some acting school, well even if so, any decent teacher would have flunked them one and all. perhaps having such hjorrid actors makes chan look good...well good is relative, and saying he was good here, is being more than generous.

as it is the plot is vitually non-existant, one fight scene was agonizingly long; taken place on the roof - if only they had actually jumped and saved us all from boredom.

it was hard to figure out just what the nature of the film was...perhaps a comedy, but who knows.

save your money, there are better chan films.

how nice for the studios to have those with such low thresholds of being entertained...at ... Read More

VHS : Knock Off
This is my all time favorite in the Van Damme library. The first time I saw it in the theater I wasn't really into it. But it wasn't because the movie was poor. My tastes simply hadn't evolved to the point where I could truly appreciate what this film is (I'm serious).

This is a great role for the man. Finally he gets to play against type and do a cocky, fun-loving, anti-hero. His character kinda makes me feel like this is what it would be like to hang with the guy in real life.

Tsui Hark brings a new visual dynamic to a VD movie that wasn't there in previous VD films. Hark is so good that he makes me cool with Rob Schneider, whom I have never been able to stand with the exception of some SNL skits. That right there makes it solid.

Hark also pushed Van Damme to expand into ... Read More

VHS : Once Upon a Time in China
Despite the martial arts filled story, the movies best scenes are of portrayal of Chinese persecution. It portrayed the hard choices that had to be made to respect your leadership or to follow your need to make it right. In the end, movie is not amazing in contrast to the next Once Upon a Time in China 2, but it is a good movie to watch.

VHS : Boxer's Adventure (Dub)
DVD gets a 5 star rating because it is perfectly widescreened with good sound and one of the best dub jobs ever. Movie gets a 4/5.

Dorian Tan plays the same role he does in a lot of movies and is sent to solve a crime. What makes this movie unique is the 3 people he brings along with him to solve the case. Jack Long, Meng Fei, and Blacky Ko come along and this is one of the best kung fu comedies of all time. Jack Long is nicknamed Nancy Boy, Meng Fei is the ladies man, Blacky Ko is the gambler, and Dorian Tan plays it straightfaced liek always but gets in some good comedy. The main villian is not the best fighter but everything that happens before the final fight makes this one of the most enjoyable movies ever.

Not the best fights but still good. You can't beat the star power in this movie. All ... Read More

This movie Shaolin vs. Lama has a variety of action in it, but the Villan had the advantage with the Army that he has with him. So, the main actor has a hard time to defeat the Villan. I gave the movie 5 stars, because of the action seens of Kung Fu been displayed in the movie.
