"October 1918" is the date for this story. German soldiers are planting explosives to destroy the advancing British soldiers when they occupy a French city. The townspeople hurriedly evacuate the town. The British are warned, they will not march into town. Instead Private Plumpick [some pun?] will be sent in to scout the town and defuse the bombs - by himself! [Believable?] Discovered by the Germans, he flees into a building for refuge and safety; it is the local insane asylum. The result of the German withdrawal is the inmates can wander freely into the deserted town and select new clothes from the abandoned homes. [This slow-paced action doesn't seem too funny to me.] Comedy is in part cultural, and attitudes change. Perhaps the humor is in suggesting the clothes make the man or woman? Or ... Read More

DOLLS!!! What may have been at the time of release "shocking" dialogue is why Valley of the Dolls will live in infamy. "Well Broad-way doesn't go for booozze and pills." Helen Larson tells Neeley O'Hara at the start of their catfight in the powder room. Great fun to watch with your best Gay friends. Great extras included. Packaging is well done and comes with lobby cards.

I first saw this movie when I was about 14 years old (1979), back in the days when movie channels would play the same 2-3 movies over and over. I fell in love with it then and have been in love with it ever since. I even won a free ice cream cone at the Ben an Jerry's in Ithaca, NY when (in 2002) I was able to tell them the significance of Maude's tatoo. I have always told my friends that Harold and Maude is my favorite movie and that I think the best movie ever made was Life is Beautiful, by Roberto Bergnini. If you think about it, there are many parallels

I saw this when I was 10 and just saw it again. It was awful then and worse now. A complete waste of time and talent. Idiotic and stupid. Bad, Bad, Bad.

VHS : What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?
This was a stunning movie in its day! Of course, it's a bit dated now, but I think it has well stood the test of time. Bette Davis and Joan Crawford were off-screen rivals who were not too fond of each other anyway. But, they had never worked together before! And here for the first time, these two 'silver screen giants' meet, work well together and both deliver stirring, powerful performances of two sisters whose rivalry matched the actresses' real-life squabble. Closely following Hitchcock's movie 'Psycho', this movie follows along the lines of a similar psychlogical thriller. Character anaysis of such deeply disturbed people were just not done in those days. There were good guy and there were bad guys, and that's all there was to it. Where Psycho tried to explain why Norman Bates was a nut, this ... Read More

The songs on this album never cease to make me smile and shake it for all its worth. The mental pictures from the film that each track conjures up is a bonus. Like Mr. Waters points out, these tunes are truly filthy!

Terry Gilliam's unique satire is as funny as it is absurd and dark. With the character of Sam Lowry he created the perfect anti-hero, not in the least thanks to the brilliant performance by Jonathan Pryce.

Equally well known is the conflict that Gilliam had to enter into to get his movie released as he wanted it, because the studio heads suddenly got not only cold feet but also the crazy notion to have a happy ending and drastically make cuts in the movie to make it shorter. Gilliam took the right approach, organized a film critics screening who raved about it and thus embarrassed the studio execs. The result was two versions of the movie, the studio version without dream sequences but with happy ending to be shown in the US and a European version of the movie Gilliam had actually made.

VHS : 9 1/2 Weeks (Unrated)
Elizabeth (Kim Bassinger) works at a trendy art gallery in New York City. She meets John (Mickey Rourke), a mysterious, wealthy stranger, and they begin a torrid affair. He's into game playing; he likes to tell her what to do and she does it, even when it scares her. He wants to control her in every way and she lets him...for nine and a half weeks.

When this came out in 1986, it was considered shocking; today one can see almost this much sensuality on TV and certainly in many movies so its impact has diminished. The steamy, dangerous, erotic night scenes contrast nicely with the cold, sterile day scenes of Elizabeth's work. The photography is striking with costumes and sets in stark black and white and close-ups designed to heighten our sensory awareness. Bassinger and Rourke are well-cast but I didn't care about ... Here we are again, the eveil dead 2.if youve read my reviews for evil daed and army of darkness you should know im a big fan of this series.evil dead 2 is just like the first one with the thrills and chills we have come to love and expect.this time around ash has more dark humor and one liners(much like army of darkness)and that helps to lighten the tone a bit but by no means does it take away from the movie.all the bllod and gore you remember from the first is back,as are the deadites.overall if youve enjoyed the first part then your sure to love this one and army of darkness.and if not give a shot another because this movie is another MUST OWN for horror fans, diehard or not.

VHS : Trilogy of Terror (1975)
Dan Curtis, brain child behind such 70's telehorror hits as "Night Stalker," "The Norliss Tapes," and "Dark Shadows," scores another success with "Trilogy of Terror." This anthology showcased Karen Black's versatility as a superb actress. She portrays four different women in three tales of terror. These women range from plain and conservative to wild and sensuous. The three tales are all based on short stories written by Richard Matheson, the best-selling author of I Am Legend, which spawned three theatrical versions; the last one starred Will Smith.

Supernatural deception is the theme in "Julie." A handsome, young college student decides to blackmail his English professor, Julie, into dating him. Naturally, there are deadly consequences. This tale has a nice downbeat ending that is rather shocking.
