The Pink Panther Strikes Again
Peter Sellers returns as the slightly dim-witted, Inspector Jack Clouseau, in this sporadically funny follow-up. Steve Martin, like in a Hindu Proverb, has to be born a thousand incarnations, before he can come within a thousand miles of Peter Sellers. This time, Clouseau, is fighting his former chief, Dreyfus(Herbert Lom), who controls a piece of machinery, with which he is threatening to blow us all sky high. Blake Edwards is at the helm again, and, Lesley Ann Down, provides the beauty.

I just didn't find this funny at all. Niven was in movies that were much funnier. Just wasn't what I expected. In fact, beat me up if you like, but I much prefer Steve Martin's version.

VHS : The Pink Panther Movie Collection/Box Set
The issue of this Pink Panther compendium is rather disappointing for a few important reasons. I knew that RETURN OF THE PINK PANTHER would probably not be included for legal reasons and 1968's INSPECTOR CLOUSEAU with Alan Akin as Clouseau as well, but I did expect to have CURSE OF THE PINK PANTHER and SON OF THE PINK PANTHER included.

THE PINK PANTHER is a film richly textured with well defined characters, plot, dialogue, production design and location photography. Niven, Sellers and Wagner give very fine performances, which seem to remain fresh and vibrant to this day. Images of the Cortina ski lodge, the costume ball, the wild car chase and especially the animated Pink Panther are part of the iconic cinematic contribution from this film and Henry Mancini's theme and score are equally audibly iconic ... Many folks here have said it very well- this is a perfectly wonderful movie with fabulous performances all around, especially from the divine Peter Sellers. But let me add that it is also a wonderful treat for those who love the stylish big budget films of the mid-sixties. Sleek and glamourous as well as hysterical.

I enjoyed this sequel; I think it is the funniest one after the 1964 original Pink Panther film. Some of the slapstick is hilarious.

VHS : Son of the Pink Panther
This is not the best Pink Panther film that I've seen. I've seen The Pink Panther, A Shot In The Dark, Inspector Clouseau, The Return Of The Pink Panther, The Pink Panther Strikes Again, Revenge Of The Pink Panther, Trail of The Pink Panther, Curse Of The Pink Panther, this one, and The Pink Panther {2006}. This is my 9th favorite Pink Panther Film. It is not as good as The Pink Panther Strikes Again. It has a great cast. Roberto Benigni as Gendarme Jacques Gambrelli, Herbert Lom as Police Commisioner Charles Dreyfus, Claudia Cardinale as Maria Gambrelli, Shabana Azmi as the Queen, Debrah Farentino as Princess Yasmin, Robert Davi as Hans Zarba, Burt Kwouk as Cato Fong, Graham Stark as Professor Auguste Balls, Oliver Cotton as King Haroak, and Dermot Crowley as Francois Duval. That was my review.

I truly enjoyed Alan Arkin in this film, and found some of the scenes absolutely hilarious!

Deserving of a "G" rating it is not, however. "PG" would better inform prospective viewers.

VHS : Curse of the Pink Panther
When Curse came out in 1983, it was not a surprise to anyone. The previous film, Trail of the Pink Panther, had an open ending, and an announcement in the end credits that they would all return in 'Curse of the Pink Panther'. But, whereas 'Trail' had been a choked attempt at making a movie using clips of the brilliant Peter Sellers, 'Curse' were to re-launch the franchise with a new actor as a, not the, bumbling inspector. Ted Wass did play bumbling and inept, but he was American, unknown and he wasn't Peter Sellers (His acting career wasn't much of anything after this either).

The point, as it is, of this movie is to find Clouseau, a computer chooses the best detective in the World to do so, but it's sabotaged and chooses the worst instead.

The inspector is found, played by Roger More. Plastic surgery, ... Read More

VHS : Revenge of the Pink Panther
In this exquisitely comic masterpiece, Peter Sellers takes fewer pratfalls but dons elaborate costumes and cruises through what is essentially a live-action cartoon, complete with bowling ball bombs, circles sawed through floors and rubber parrots. He's ably assisted by Herbert Lom, Bert Kwouk and Dyan Cannon who is more than just a pretty face. She takes her own pratfalls and engages in daft dialogue with Clouseau in a classic scene that involves three brandy snifters.

As for the plot, it is THE FRENCH CONNECTION meets the GODFATHER defeated by the MUPPET SHOW. Some might criticize this comedy for running on the franchise, as Blake Edwards does here, but Edwards succeeded in creating a film franchise because he knew how to deliver on expectations and go a little bit beyond. At this point, Sellers and Edwards were the kings of ... Read More
