VHS : Escape From La
This movie follows Escape from New York, and it's just great. It's not meant to be taken too seriously. There are subtle jokes throughout the movie. A lot of it is tongue in cheek. So enjoy it for what it is. My favorite line is "This is LA, and this ****ing city can kill anyone!" There will be no Oscars, no awards given out for this movie... it's just mindless entertainment. You can tell Kurt Russell is having fun with the character. The whole movie is "over the top" and that's the point. Loads of fun, provided you don't take the movie, or yourself, too seriously. So lighten up, sit back, and enjoy!

Just as good as Big Bird Cage. This film stars the lovely Pam Grier also Sid Haig doing what they do. Sid Haig comes close to stealing the show from the 2 girls in this movie when he comes on screen to play his parts but, seeing Pam Grier half naked in a sweat box chained up takes the cake. 2 escapees fight with each other then become breast friends. Decent action with the budget they were shooting with. I enjoyed this movie and only paid 6 or 7 bucks for it.

VHS : Penitentiary (EP edition)
This film was really good. Writer and director Jamaa Fanaka was still a student at UCLA and Penitentiary was the first starring vehicle for former disc jockey and future evangelist Leon Isaac Kennedy. If you don't know the story it goes like this; Too Sweet (Leon Isaac Kennedy) is charged with murder, and convicted despite his innocence; he's shipped off to a run-down prison where Jesse Amos (Donovan Womack), one of the prisoners, lords it over the other inmates. Too Sweet ends up sharing a cell with Half Dead (Badja Djola), a violent lunatic who is one of Jesse's musclemen. Too Sweet refuses to buckle under to the intimidation dished out by Half Dead and his cronies, even after seeing how they've "turned out" Eugene (Thommy Pollard), another new fish who has become Jesse's sexual slave. Forced to ... Read More

VHS : Big Bird Cage
Toning things down a bit from Big Doll House, Hill returned to his old stomping grounds the following year to make The Big Bird Cage, essentially a spoof of the WIP genre. If you don't take it too seriously and can handle a few sudden 180-degree mood swings, it's one of the most entertaining and certainly best-made women's prison movies of the 1970's. Somewhere on a dictatorially reigned tropical island, American actress Terry (Anita Ford) is taken hostage by revolutionary Django (Sid Haig), when he pulls of a heist on a bar with his girlfriend Blossom (Pam Grier) and other fellow revolutionaries. While on the run from the police, Django leaves Terry back, who is mistaken for his female accomplice and brought to a jungle prison camp for women...

Anitra Ford is the token heroine, but Pam ... Read More

VHS : Escape from New York
Carpenter's classic with Kurt Russell playing a short mean Clint Eastwood with an eye patch (ala John Wayne), Lee Van Cleef as the warden and a cast that includes Ernest Borgine, Adrienne Barbeau, Isaac Hayes and Harry Dean Stanton. Let us not forget Donald Pleasance at the President of the United States. ("You're the Duke, you're A no. 1!") Manhatten as a prison, a downed Air Force One and Snake Plisken sent in to effect a rescue and return before impacted explosive charges blow his head off. Eerie night shooting in a burned out section of St. Louis subbing for New York and an effective Carpenter score. A classic.

VHS : Girls Town
It's always amazed me how director Charles F. Haas managed to orchestrate the outstanding cast that he had for _Girls Town_. The amount of talent assembled for this low-budget classic is virtually unprecedented: Mamie Van Doren, Mel Torme, Ray Anthony (Mamie's real life husband during filming), Paul Anka, Gloria Talbott, Elinor Donahue, Gigi Perreau and The Platters.

Mamie Van Doren's portrayal of trash-talking Silver Morgan is a "crazy, cool, fantabulous" camp classic. Van Doren's voluptuous figure is enhanced with push-up bras and padded panty girdles before it is poured into a series of revealing outfits. There's no doubt about it -- this girl puts out! Gloria Talbot and Peggy Moffitt exchange coy glances as Paul Anka sings "When Somebody Loves You", while the _Girls Town_ girls dance with each other at a party. ... Read More

VHS : Breakout
This is Charles Bronson at his best. On the top. Bronson at the top of his game with "Breakout". This film also features: Robert Duvall and Randy Quaid. And you can all ways count on the sleazy Sheree North to throw in a little T&A fun too! I love this film.
