VHS : Dolemite 2 - The Human Tornado
What is the question that will forever be the Dolemite aficionado. A burning question guranteed to forever split both sides of the debate.[No, its not that serious] Just which Dolemite movies are better than the other. Is it Dolemite or the Human Tornado? For me it was the Dolemite over the Human Tornado. The Humando tornado starts off as a F5 but by the closing credits it whimpers into a FO. What hinders the film is both sluggish pace and lack of funny lines from Rudy Ray Moore. The films does have some interesting material[such as the Mrs. Cavaletti scene and car chase] but it just comes off as too soft and slow. Let's not forget the fact it lacks the defining role of our favoriet character--the Hamburger Pimp!!!!

Dolemite's homeboys are just not funny. The three friends ... Read More

I Remember when I saw the blaxploitation movie called Shaft and it was SOOO SLOW and BORING!! I was looking for a funny action packed black movies from the 70's!!! Then I saw Slaughter and guess what! My search was over!!

This movie is FUNNY AND WITH A VENGANCE!!!
I has CAR CHASES, LOTS OF SHOOTING, STUNTS, STREET FIGHTING, EXPLOTIONS AND PREETY LADIES!!!

For a low budget film this one have a good video quality and a good monaural sound, not to mention de widescreen with the big black boards.

P.S: Im glad that this movie has cool action scenes from the begining to the end!

Adios

VHS : Black Belt Jones
I saw this movie the one and only time when I was eight in the theatre and I remember the entire black audience roaring through the whole thing. I didn't know what was better, Black Belt Jones, Enter the Dragon, or Three the Hard Way. But I do know I loved them all. I'm now 39 and I've seen Three'' and Enter'' a couple of times over the years but I could not find Black Belt Jones anywhere to save my life. Well, turns out a friend of mine had a copy on DVD (yes there is one) and I just watched it. I LOVED IT ALL OVER AGAIN! Sure, it's campy and very seventies, but for some reason (maybe the comedy) it stands out as the best of the Blaxplotation genre. As a young black kid in the seventies I loved Jim Kelly (Wow, a black Bruce Lee) and I wanted a fro like his. Hmmmmm, memories. The theme song was ... Read More

Instead of giving props to the movie, which was marginal at best. I'll speak on the costume designer. Bravo for the clothes...they were "Out Of Sight!" Also, Priest's car was the sickest car I've ever seen in my life...I want one.

Like most sequals, this movie is not of the same caliber of the original Cleopatra Jones. It is, however, entertaining, and collectors of Urban 70's movies will find this one a "must have" for the collection.

I know this film has been trashed by critics both black and white for its heavy content (i.e. stautory rape scene, and interracial sex scene), but this film was given an X rating. Melvin Van Peebles, who is highly regarded as the "Godfather of Modern Black Cinema" put everything he had on the line to get this film made, despite the Supreme Court, death threats. Bill Cosby even co-financed the film.

Ten years ago, I purchased "Sweetback" on VHS, and I was completely, blown away by this controversial, yet revolutinary, independent Black film. Bottom Line: If it weren't for Melvin Van Peebles raising the bar in filmmaking, there would be no Spike Lee or John Singleton.

Coming up in the 70's myself, it really hit home for me. I came up in Third Ward, one of the urban areas of Houston, Texas. And let me tell you that Mr. Roscoe Orman, is a actor before his time. He should do a sequel, but not as the pimp but as what Mr. Orman, is doing now. He is educating our children. If he has been in any other movies let me know. [...]
