O.K. Anyone that knows of Russ Myers work (faster, kill, etc) this is a great flick, Well, we know Russ was a Breast man. And the openess of the late 60's & 70's shows in his films. Bad effects, bad acting, and cheesey plots to get people naked. "pizza Delivery" "Did someone call for a Plumber to clean her pipes?" LOL.
Just roll with it,. Show your 17+ year old what we call pornographic for the time,. If you can find a copy in BETA, and a player, like I saw it in '74 or sometime..

How could anyone not love this thing? After all, it has Bela Lugosi, Vampira, Chriswell and a cast of extraterrestrial queens. To top it off it was produced by the 'worst' director of all time, Ed Wood.

Of course it's terrible. If approached anything like cinematic quality it would have been bad. As it is, however, it's terrific, especially if you've knocked down three or four beers in advance. The sets are cheesy, the special effects a joke, the acting ridiculous and the jokes over the top. Aliens, the chief of whom is a total swish, are angry at earth people for not recognizing that they are real. They also believe that earthlings--despite the fact that we are incredibly stupid, juvenile idiots--are about to develop technologies that will destroy the Universe. Therefore, in an equal measure of pique ... Read More

I just wanted to mention the fact that this is unquestionably the worst film they've ever done on MST3K. There are a few movies that are technically even more incompetent, but this one is just... so.... boring. (The only one that can compare to it is 'Monster A-Go-Go'.) They dance and dance and dance and dance and dance and dance and dance. And oh the voice over. The heartless, anemic voice over designed to replace the lost soundtrack. Uhhhhh. The episode itself is pretty good, though.

Product contained a lot of fully dressed UGLY women. Should be rated no higher than PG 13, and that for the one (out of focus)boob shot. Service was excellent, product was a waste of time and money.

I love Divine and John Waters, but this film went too far. I can't deal with rape, animal abuse, or coprophagous acts on the screen.

The Good Things
*The film has good video quality. A few color shifts and particles on the print perhaps, but is mostly clear, sharp, and colorful.
*Some parts are actually pretty cool. The angelic alien and the Black Queen are great, and there are one or two neat fight scenes.
*Some symbolism (particuarly some phalyc symbols).
*Acting is not bad. A few good lines.
*The costumes are excellent (although some people may find them too outlandish).
*Some sets are great, with imaginative designs and props. As noted below, however, other sets are awful.
*It is presented in Widescreen. Includes English and French audio.

The Bad Things
*Some sets are great. Other sets are just plain terrible. Barbarella's ship is made of ugly brown shag carpet and moves in pretty lame ways to unconvincingly simulate movement. ... Read More

VHS : Desperate Living
The first time I saw "Pink Flamingoes," something seemed oddly familiar. I later realized it was the "acting." The actors delivered their lines with the conviction and subtlety of a Jr. High School play. This element coupled with the cruelly insightful, almost profound nature of what is being said is a trademark of John Waters. It softens the blow somewhat.

"Desperate Living" still delivers an abundance of Waters' trademark irony in action, but, there's a catch. Two catch's, really. Firstly, there is somewhat convincing acting from several key roles. It might sound like a letdown, but it actually enhances the story. The second aberration is the absence of Waters' workhorse Divine. Proving that he could succeed on his own wit alone, Waters made his funniest film ever.

Fans of "Flamingoes" might be disappointed by the lack of "real" shock material. ... Read More
