VHS : El Hazard - Wanderers TV Series Boxed Set
I got this for Yule and watched it all in one day, I enjoyed it that much. After having loved the original series and the direct sequel, I was a little more wary with this, as I was with Tnechi Universe, which was a disappointment except for the final 10 episodes. The Wandereres however, is a masterpiece and worth every penny.

The love story between Rune Venus and Makoto is a nice change from Ifurita, who easily steals almost every scene she is in with the television series, her character is just brilliant and refreshing. Jinnai doesn't laugh enough for my liking, and the Bugrum, like all the others are as entertaining, intreging and lovable as ever. Shame about having no Phantom Tribe, but that would have made it far to complicated. Easily a 5 star rating.

VHS : El Hazard: Battlefield Confusion
This is the first El-Hazard tape, which may be confusing since there are so many El-Hazard series.

The tape concerns a student named Makoto who finds himself, one of his teachers, and two classmates transported to the magical world of El-Hazard. Once there, he finds out that he bears an uncanny resemblance to a princess who has gone missing. The princess needs to be seen to preserve the fragile alliance of some of the nations of El-Hazard, and Makoto reluctantly agrees to pretend to be her. Hilarity ensues.

This series really has two things going for it. One is the humor. It's one of the top three funniest anime I've seen, along with Ranma 1/2 and Goldenboy. Makoto's teacher Fujisawa is, in particular, hilarious. He's gifted with super-strength when he gets to El-Hazard, ... Read More

VHS : El Hazard - The Magnificent World, Vol. 3
This is the third volume of El-Hazard, and in my opinion it surpasses the first two tapes. The only thing really lacking earlier in the series was a sense of interest in the characters. I enjoyed watching them, but I didn't really feel anything for them as people.

This tape makes you care. It is also pivotal in that it introduces Ifurita, the "Demon God" with the big chest and the rather shocking penchant for destruction. Jinnai manages to awaken her, and minutes later commands her to destroy the allied nations that are at war with the Bugrom. This she begins to do, by hovering over a large city and obliterating it with a single energy blast. After the lightheartedness of the first tapes, in which no one really got hurt, this was almost disturbing. The drama melds well with the comedy, ... Read More

If you liked the first El-Hazard: The Magnificent World, The World of Endless Adventure, you're sure to like this one.

Our hero, Makoto, having agreed to portray the lost princess Fatora, sets off to Mt. Muldoon with his teacher Fujisawa and...Alielle. They encounter two of the three priestesses they are looking for (the priestesses being the only ones who can activate the Eye of God, necessary to defend Roshtaria), but things don't go as planned and they have to make another journey after that to find the priestesses again.

This tape is just as funny as the first one, as well as just as beautiful. The three priestesses are great, especially Miz Mishtal, the mistress of water so desperate to land a husband she instantly falls for the alcoholic Fujisawa. Alielle is in heaven with ... Read More

VHS : El Hazard The Alternative World: Priestess of Water
The second TV series (not a third OAV as many people seem to believe) actually picks up where the second OAV left off, rather than following the Wanderers TV series. Speaking as a big fan of the OAVs, I certainly can't complain!

I reccommend watching the OAVs first, as you're dropped right into the story without in-depth development of the characters. However, there we are treated to several new characters, including Quarool/Kauru Towles, the new prietsess of water, and her attendant, Parnasse/Palnus...who just happens to be Alielle's little brother! Where I find Quarool a bit to bland for my tastes (we were spoiled with the hilarious exploits Miz!), but Parnasse and Emperor Dall Narciss of Certaria are just too perfect!! They provide for the majority of the laughs in this volume!

After seeing the first El Hazard series, I found myself feeling utterly lost and confused after I started watching this one. Those of you who've seen the first series may remember that it ended with the four visitors from our world returning to Earth. However, at the beginning of this show, they're suddenly back in El Hazard without any explanation. There's some definete story that got left out here. Anyway, it begins with our hero's anxiously awaiting the arrival of a new prestess, who has the power over water. But she's late in arriving, and Makoto must go out and find her...In the second episode, we meet Elliel's twin brother, and in episode three, the main characters (and one Bugrum,) get transported to yet another world. Anyway, if you can get over not being told how the four travelers from Earth returned ... Read More
