A.D. POLICE FILES (1990) is a three-part OAV spin-off of BUBBLEGUM CRISIS (1987), the anime cypberpunk sci-fi classic about battles with "Boomers"--androids run amok--waged by the costumed female crime-fighters, the Knight Sabers, in Mega-Tokyo in 2032. A.D. POLICE is set a few years earlier and focuses on members of the title police unit as they combat Boomer crimes at a time when humans and Boomers (who range from strictly mechanical creations to replicas of beautiful women) have become mutually interdependent. This series is grittier and more bloody than BUBBLEGUM CRISIS and is designed more along the lines of a crime thriller with sci-fi elements. Its mixture of sex, violence and cybernetics, all done in sharp, cleanly executed style, should please fans of harder-edged sci-fi anime of the ... Read More

I can't belive I wasted my money on this! I loved BGC 2010, so I was expecting something along the same lines. Boy was I wrong! This show is extremely slow, and the animation looks like a bunch of paper cut outs being moved along a digital background. While things start to get a little more exciting towards the end of the tape, I still felt like falling asleep. ADV must have felt the same way because they canceled the rest of the VHS volumes and now are just doing a DVD release for the whole series in one collection. If you have to see this series RENT it first. Otherwise watch the original or BGC, ...

VHS : Ad Police: Love's Labor Lost (Dub)
Act two continues the exploits of the A.D. police particularly that of Kenji Sasaki and Hans Kleif who are actually functioning together as an effective team. Kenji is also not being as reckless as he used to be, but occasionally he reverts back to his loner ways which ticks the other A.D. police officers off, but from a viewer point of view looks devastatingly cool.

Act 1 Promise In this episode a jewelry store that Kenji's girlfriend just happens to be at gets held up by a bunch of criminals using Voomers. All though the rescue plan has been done before in several action flicks it still was entertaining.

Act 2 Strategy Liam Fletcher turns himself into the A.D. police claiming that his boss has put a hit on him because he thinks that he is a traitor. He says that he will testify ... Read More

This is the tale of Leon of the ADP's first case. It sets the tone for the two movies to follow in the series of questioning the real differences between boomer and human. Officer Leon is newly promoted to the ADP after stopping a mad boomer while with the regular police. But how will he deal with a lust crazed cyborg partner? And who is the phantom woman who is so interested in Leon? Just remember kids: "Shoot the brain!" Not for anyone under 18. Seriously.

VHS : Ad Police Files: Baoh
Baoh is based off a pretty good manga series. Unfortunately, they didn't translate it over to well to the anime form. Though the animation is pretty good, most of the plot is thrown out the window. Baoh is a parasite that the government has created that when injected into a host when work its way up to the brain and attach. When the host is harmed or adrenaline starts to pump, Baoh takes over the host body, creating the host to become superhuman with superpowers. When the host in this anime takes over Ikuroo, he comes underattack from the government after he has escaped. He must protect a young girl, who herself has a precognitive gift, from getting killed by the governments loose cannons. The anime is short and is only one episode so everything happens quickly and violently. Not an anime for kids.
