VHS : All in the Family 20th Anniversary
"All in the Family" has been reviewed, re-reviewed, analyzed and re-analyzed till little anything original is left. Who cares? This series was a true revolutionary for its time and had the gonads enough to tackle real-life social issues and problems in real-life fashion, something that comedies then didn't do. This video, a compilation of highlights from the series, comes no where near capturing ALL the highlights of the program: you'd have to get cassettes of literally every episode to savor all those other highlights for which not enough time exists in this compilation. We do get the treat of some classics, like the historic kiss Sammy Davis Jr. plants on Archie while a camera captures it, "Meathhead" Michael's frustrating rantings to Archie about "Tricky Dick" and a then-bold episode where "Dingbat" ... VHS : Bewitched (3 VHS Boxed Set) / TV Show
Okay, Bewitched actually started and ended before I was born. I first caught old episodes on a cable channel many years after it was first on, and thought it was brilliant. Dick York was one of the greatest comedic talents of the 20th century. Thus, you would think that making classic episodes available on home video would get an instant *****, right? Well not if they need THREE VIDEOS FOR SIX EPISODES!!Why not just put one episode each on six different videos and charge double? What a ripoff. This is why I docked the one star from what would have otherwise been a perfect rating. In short, excellent, classic comedy, which is marred by the greedy format it is sold in.

4.Burns and Allen Christmas - Company for Christmas / Christmas in Jail starring: Ronnie Burns, Fred Clark, Larry Keating, Howard McNear, Rolfe Sedan

George and Gracie are in good form in these two clever, Christmas-themed episodes. Fun for old-movie fans, too, with guest appearances by familiar character actors Douglass Dumbrille and George E. Stone. The video producers have noticeably re-edited the shows, adding quick fades to bridge the gaps. But the frequent fades are only a minor drawback, because the quality is superior. These prints have never looked better.

VHS : All in the Family: Archie Meets Meathead
"All In The Family" was certainly a ground-breaking TV show, and the episodes selected for this VHS video will give you a pretty good idea as to why that was true. Archie Bunker, in all his bigoted splendor, comes to life right away in the premiere episode of the series, entitled "Meet The Bunkers" (first aired in January of 1971).

In addition to that first episode, this tape also gives us another Season-One program (Episode # 8), "Lionel Moves Into The Neighborhood", and a show from Season Two, "Flashback: Mike Meets Archie" (which was the 18th episode in the series).

This 1998-produced color video from Columbia Tri-Star Home Video is presented (for some odd reason that I've yet to fathom) in "EP" (Extended Play) mode. (Well, at least the copy that I received is in EP mode; perhaps some other ... Read More
