I got this tape for $1 at my local dollar store, and I'm glad I didn't pay more. I would say it's not worth much more than five.

The good points are that it's colorful, and the animation and songs are pretty decent. But the instructor often spends way too much time talking about the poses, rather than just getting into them. It's too long for kids to wait. Also, I find the instructor's voice very.....odd. I know it's supposed to be 'soothing', but I find it weird. It's rather deep. It sounds to me like a man's voice trying to be a woman's voice. (If you've ever seen Transamerica, you'll know what I mean.)

I don't think my kids will use this as it's intended, as it's pretty slow. I know yoga isn't about speed, but kids aren't generally about meditation and ... Read More

VHS : Yoga: Beginners Workout
I love her voice. Her cueing is great. The scenery is beautiful as is the music. Her outfits are really beautiful, and she looks so comfortable in them. Finally, no sun salutation! A refreshing change. You wonder of other yoga traditions know any thing else to start a beginner?

My only reason for not giving 5 stars is that there is no short version on the dvd. It doesn't even say how long the work out is...seems like way over an hour?? I would have liked a short 30 min workout included for busy days and a separate meditation section. It seems to just go on forever...

I had trouble finding this & barely knew she had this advanced "fun challenge series" dvd.
There are more reviews on her vhs version & this DVD suggest you master her 3 dvd beginner "easy" & 3 dvd intermediate "hello fitness" series first.
From other reviews on her other DVDs, you know she has a soothing voice with an accent that I didn't have trouble understanding, the views are gorgeous & she always tells you great info about body placement, even chinese medicine/martial arts/qi gong terms. She also tells you what organs or parts or systems of the body each pose works on as you do it to keep you going. Her soft speaking never intrudes your concentration. The music is light new age, mostly dominated by piano or string instruments.
The poses done are: wide arrow (balance ... Read More

I am a beginner and have been following this tape with my 12-year-old son (also a beginner). We love the easy-to-follow directions, beautiful and relaxing scenery, and Wai Lana's peaceful and encouraging manner. We tried other beginner yoga videos from the library, but Wai Lana is our favorite. Highly recommended!!

In the 1 min intro, she tells you this is for serious yoga practitioners who see yoga as more for showing off or just physical stretching but also a mind/body connection.
She is very calm & relaxing, helps you to center & relax no matter how jump, or irritated you are. She's one of the only yoga teachers who tell you the BENEFITS of each pose.
I had a small pounding headache before starting, tried Sara Ivanhoe & felt even more irritated & put in this though I know it's a bit advanced for me & felt calm for the first time in a day or so & my headache disappeared after doing the shoulder stand.

She starts with crescent pose 3x each side by standing & then sliding one foot backwards & then getting up all w/o hands, then warrior 1 (she helped me feel it ... Read More

In this video, Wai Lana offers a series of dynamic poses focused on stretching and toning various areas of the body. She begins with a basic breathing exercise plus some simple stretches for the neck. Next, you'll wake up the legs by alternating between a squat and a toe raise, then move on a standing knee to chest stretch. Still in a standing position, Wai Lana performs what she calls a "Dancing Forward Bend" (the names for all of her poses appear briefly on screen, which is helpful because she frequently uses names I've never seen before), which is basically a continuous flow between a standing forward bend and a standing backbend. The final standing posture is a variation on triangle pose in which your legs are only shoulder-width apart.

Wai Lana then moves to the floor for some back stretches, ... Read More

This is an excellent change from the mainstream yoga dvd... Hmmm... maybe I should even say wardrobe change! She changes her outfits throughout the entire dvd... kind cool! Interesting to look at, however, that is not as important at the practice and instruction which is great! It's so nice to see someone do something different for a change! I'd also check out Tamara's Yoga Fusion for something different as well. Great for all levels.TAMARA'S YOGA FUSION

VHS : Yoga: Wake Up Body
I've been doing yoga over 4 years starting with Rodney Yee who helped to get yoga more mainstream years ago with Oprah. I started with him & now have more then 30 dvds, with liking Wai Lana, Rodney Yee, Rainbeau Mars, Kunalini yoga w/Gurutej Kaur or Gurmukh, Better Sex w/yoga, Firm's Power yoga w/Kristen, Seane Corn or YogicArts the most. With their help, I went from unable to each touch my feet to doing full splits by only doing 20-30 min a day 1-3x/week.

I agree her makeup & clothing are way too gaudy, but you know that wasn't her idea, it was the production & director's ideas so I try to not let things like that influence how I feel about the content, style & instructor's teaching & intent which is the most important.

Her beginning DVDs are not easy for those who are very ... Read More
