VHS : Stott Pilates - Intermediate Matwork
I actually own the basic, intermediate and advanced Stott Pilates videos. While I love the workout, I was highly disappointed that the tapes malfunctioned after a few months of use. Both the beginner and intermediate tapes I purchased wouldn't play - I had to open the case and manipulate the acetate to get the tapes going again. I thought this was odd since I still have tapes that I bought in the early 90s that work with no problem today. When I emailed the Merrithew Corporation - the Canadian company owned by Stott that makes the tapes - to complain, they promised to send me replacements, but never did. The sad part is that I also gave a Stott beginner tape to my mother as a gift and it malfunctioned as well after a few months.

VHS : Denise Austin - Stretch & Flex
Remember back in High School Health Class where they told you that the three major fitness component were Aerobics, Muscle Toning and Flexibility? There are plenty of videos out there that take care of the first two... but not the flexibility. I have been using this tape since in came out in 1993. It came out before the big Yoga and Pilates fad really hit. I have had to replace it several times. It is the best tape for stretching I have yet to find. It's easy and can be used no matter what your fitness level or age. It's only 30 minutes so not overly lengthly. There are very few difficult yoga-like poses. The ones that are featured are challenging enough and can be done with a little practice. Denise uses a calm voice and gives lots of tips for better form and encouragement without being ... VHS : Stott Pilates: Essential Matwork for Beginners
Essential Matwork really provides a good foundation for a correct understanding of Pilates. I had been doing Pilates for about 6 months and found that there were some muscles I was not working the right way. The exercises can seem simple if you aren't doing them correctly. So yes, it takes patience to learn the right way, but that makes this video an excellent place to get started! Once you master these basic skills, going on to another Stott video will keep you from getting bored.

VHS : Stretchin' To The Classics with Richard Simmons
This video is the perfect way for me to ease into my day. I get up, put on the coffee, then pop in "Stretchin' To The Classics". The music is soothing and the stretching takes away that morning stiffness. By the time the tape is over 15 minutes later, I feel calm and limber. And, my coffee is just finishing.

I also use it sometimes in the evening when I get the urge to snack. Popping in this tape gives me 15 minutes to let go of that urge and replace it with a different type of feel-good.

The fact that there is no talking, just music, in this tape makes it particularly soothing. The moves are learned quickly without cueing because they are slow.

I have successfully used Richard's tapes for years beginning with the original "Sweatin' to the Oldies" from 1988. ... Read More

8.QuickFix Tight Abs Workout starring: Julie Upton

VHS : QuickFix Tight Abs Workout
This video is wonderful. Ten minutes of ab work is actually a lot more than people realize and Julie Upton definitely makes the most of your time. She does lots of different exercises - many of them I'm sure you've never seen before. They're very effective, and although I do agree that sometimes you don't feel the burn (even the next day) it doesn't mean your abs aren't getting stronger. I used to hate doing simple crunches, but now I love working my abs. This video makes it so easy, seeing as the only way one could imagine spending 10 minutes on abs otherwise, is by doing 3 sets of crunches/leg lifts etc. This is a great video, and always challenging. Buy it!

VHS : Jane Fonda's Step and Stretch Workout
I love this workout and wish all step workouts were more like it: fun, varying in uncomplicated steps, and enthusiastic.

I honestly forgot I was working out and the time flew by.

The cueing is the best I've seen on any workout DVDs I've done.

Enjoy!

VHS : The Method - Pilates - Precision Toning
This is without a doubt...the best video I have ever bought! Jennifer Kries is a very good instructor. I sweat more doing this 45 minute tape, than ridding the stationary bike for an hour. Through my own experiance, you MUST regularly do this tape for at least 2 months before you will REALLY see results. I think I spent the first 2 months mastering the different moves. Then when I had done so...I could start concentrating on feeling the burn in my muscles. This tape WILL change the shape of your body...and you will see a difference, but you must stick with it. The Method Precision Sculpting video is also really good. I have been incorporating both tapes into my routine...and seeing the results I want.
