VHS : Signing Made Easy
You can only take so much text, flash cards, and study ... then you need to see it in action. part of the learning process is not just learning the signs, but being able to read them when someone else uses them. Looking for perfect? Language is not perfect. This is a great primer as it also gets you exposed to someone who has had to learn speach without the aid of hearing. this is a great DVD,

VHS : Blue's Clues - All Kinds of Signs
My daughter is deaf and loves watching blue's clue, so I was some what disappointed with the limited signing. There was a small protion of consistent signing during story time, but that was a small segment.

I was expecting signing throughout the entire tape.

VHS : Baby See 'N Sign
I've been playing this video for my daughter every morning, since she was 6 months old. At 10 months she signed "bye bye". The next week, she signed "hat" (unfortunately, there is not much use in signing this word at this age...) Every week, she seems to add one sign. The next week, she signed "eat", which is awesome cause now she tells me when she wants to eat!! At 11 months, she signed "more", which she uses when we are feeding her. The video shows an illustration of the word, says the word aloud, and also writes the word. Then, the ASL teacher signs the word. Each word is shown and signed three times. The repetition is great for young children. I do wish that the video had more practical words like "come", "be careful", "sleepy", etc. instead of farm animals!! Although at the end of the tape, ... VHS : Lyric Language I (German/English)
I've had this video for a very long time. It was interesting the first three times when I was six years old, but then got very irritating.

Now, I'm a senior in high school, actually taking a German class. I find the video fun to watch to reinforce vocabulary and grammar. With the exception of three extremely annoying songs, it's really catchy. I find myself singing the songs in class.

I dislike that the video portion features American children and activities, but know that the video part is the same for all the Lyric Language tapes (I have the French version as well, it's exactly the same).

VHS : Lyric Language II (German/English)
My daughter is 15 months old and really enjoys this tape. Not as much as Bilingual Baby - German, but a close second. I like the first video (Lyric Language - German) in this series a little better, but both are very good. The songs are catchy, without being too obnoxious, so I don't mind seeing the video over and over again.

VHS : The Standard Deviants - French, Parts 1 & 2
This DVD provides both parts I and II of the Standard Deviants' French series. I teach high school French, and my students find the videos engaging, entertaining, and informative. By its nature, this DVD cannot offer the depth necessary to supplant any real teaching (which isn't their purpose anyway); however, it does help remind students of some grammatical and lexical basics they learn in French I. The college-age actors (non-native speakers with some questionable pronunciations here and there but clear enough for their goal) are accessible to my teen students, but their acting is meant to be over-the-top (perhaps to counter boring professors' lectures at some universities). Note that this DVD is not for learning phrases for travel.

I got this video a couple of years ago and my son with global developmental delay and major speech problems. He had complete access to it. He liked it and learned all the words. We misplaced it for awhile and now he has it out again and is in his room saying and practicing the words/signs by himself.

With American settings, food, housing, people, kids, clothing, kitchens and the "Japanese" in English, this is better suited for people wanting to learn English. International Baby 101 is the real thing.
