My son's vocabulary is insanely advanced (at 16 months old he had 50 words), and I think this video series has helped. He was a super preemie so therapists were urging us to stay on top of his development (at one point his speech seemed behind). One therapist recommended this video series a few months ago. We play these videos (alternating Volumes 1 & 2) for him once every couple of days. He's suprisingly entertained by them (there's no story, just pictures of things while a voice names them: Baby, Ball!) But he soaks it up, and recently started talking up a storm, pointing to things and yelling Lion! etc. Of course the videos don't get all the credit. I constantly narrate to him. But I highly recommended this video series.

I bought this DVD because our child is raised in a bilingual home (English-French). The concept of a multilingual DVD is great but I did not expect the quality of the DVD to be that bad. The spelling of some words is wrong and the pronunciation too: it is not a native French speaker. I am looking forward to a DVD that would be multilingual but with higher standards. This is mediocre. If your goal is to teach your child many languages, do not get this DVD.

We have the first three tapes in this series, and I play them interchangeably for our son, who is just over a year old. I found it frustrating that a complex term like "bulldozer" is included, while the baby is still working on learning the much simpler "truck." I mean, why are we getting into such complex distinctions of types of vehicles? I'd have preferred that the vocabulary list stick to words most likely to be needed -- and reinforced -- by everyday living. Only if the kid lives in a construction zone would "bulldozer" seem necessary. I felt the same way about "helicopter" -- but then again, when my son watches the shot of the chopper taking off, he's highly amused. So I have mixed feelings. My two boys, ages 2 and 5 love the kidsongs videos. This one is their favorite. I like it too, because none of the songs are annoying so I don't mind it when they watch it five time in a row.

If you know anyone who has trouble falling asleep-get them this DVD! It's so mezmorizing. You can feel something happening in your head. I got somewhat foggy and had trouble snapping out of my altered state even after I left the room. My eldest child who is a light sleeper and has never been a fan of taking naps, completely konked out after 10 minutes of this movie and I had trouble waking him up! No one is really watching this DVD anymore in my house because of the powerful effects, but it's worth a purchase since the visuals are super. And if you need help falling asleep this will probably do the trick.
