The Good Things
*Good action and special effects. Love the nebula battle scene.
*Good filming style. Generally more colorful and upbeat.
*Pretty good storyline.
*Good characters.
*Good writing. Contains some comedy and a nice love story. Also some interesting content concerning immortality and having two species of the same genetic root fighting each other.
*One or two interesting themes about youth.
*Pretty good music.

The Bad Things
*Nothing particuarly special; the movie feels more like a two-hour long episode.

The Questionable Things
*This film is called "Insurrection," but it's not that big of an insurrection. I expected the Enterprise to oppose the entire Federation or something, but it's more like a ... Read More

From the storyline and props, one can easily see that this episode is one of the last ones in the series. Flint is a man who was somehow born as an immortal on Earth. Growing weary of watching loved ones age and die and forced to move on before people recognized his true condition, he has traveled to Holberg 917-G.
A deadly epidemic of Rigellian fever is sweeping through the crew of the Enterprise and the antidote, a substance called ryetalyn is found on Holberg 917-G. Kirk leads a landing party to the surface and they are attacked by a floating robot called M4. Flint is accompanied by the beautiful and brilliant Rayna and Flint claims her as his ward. As you can surmise 20 seconds after Kirk meets her, he falls for her and she falls for him.
This leads to Kirk engaging in a battle ... Read More

It's not often you get to own television history of what was to become a Star Trek phenom. Reading the back of the box "Airdate:Never shown on TV!" in red ink is something! Many people make comparisons between Pike and Kirk. Everyone says it's the acting of William Shatner vs. Jeffrey Hunter with Hunter's Pike seeming to think too much vs. Shatner's Kirk being more energetic. Shatner replaced Hunter so Kirk was written to be more energetic, have more fight scenes, being the womanizing captain in nearly every episode. Personally I think Jeffrey Hunter was cuter than Shatner was. There are two things prophetic about the Cage. Telosian illusion is comparable to Holodecks in Star Trek The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine which is interesting because no one could've predicted Star Trek would sell later until ... This episode is certainly worth owning. To me, it embodies everything that was great about Patrick Stewart's classically influenced TNG acting chops, and the quality and sensibilities that made/make Star Trek so great. In fact, it is this sort of writing that makes science fiction thick and rich with potential. It's about imagination, but imagination within the realm of possibility. How many other worlds are out there now? How many have come and gone before us? This episode explores those very ideas and does it with class, style and panache. I can't explain this episode. Well, I could, but I can't do it justice, just watch. Watch with an open mind and an open heart, and I guarantee you'll come away a bit more sensitive towards the universe around you. You may also notice a haunting tug each time you look at a distant ... Read More

The Good Things
*Excellent action and special effects (especially the opening, which was probably the first really cool use of the shockwave effect that we now see everywhere else).
*Filming style is good.
*Storyline is smashing. Much darker, more dramatic than before. Lots of interesting political intruigue and mystery.
*Reveals a lot in the "Star Trek" universe. You finally get to see more of Klingon culture, and you get to see that they have pink blood, and so on.
*Characters are great; acting is good.
*Writing is good. A few memorable lines, and a few bits of dry humor that doesn't take away too much from the serious storyline.
*Strong themes about the uncertainty of the future (hence the Shakespearean motif).
*Excellent music; a different theme, but very dramatic.

It may be that I am in the very minority of people if I state that Star Trek Generations is far and away the best of the Next Gen films and one of the best of the overall series. I may be in the minority to talk about its philosophical themes that are all over the place in all the right places. It may be I'm the only person who sees this film as a philosophy piece like Blade Runner. But that's what I see it as. And though this film is definitely not as well-directed or well-made as the aforementioned Ridley Scott classic, the themes and astounding philosophical musings are very similar.

'Star Trek: Generations' deals with the themes of time, humanity, happiness, and obsession. The film revolves around a scientist of the name Dr. Tolian Soran (portrayed by Malcom McDowell of 'A Clockwork Orange') who was sucked into a time vortex called the Nexus ... Read More

This is one of my favorite episodes of the original series. It is a great example of the friendship between Kirk, Spock and McCoy. Sure, it doesn't have all of the special effects and more elaborate sets of some of the other episodes, but it still ranks high in my all time favorite episodes.

8.Star Trek - The Original Series, Episode 10: What Are Little Girls Made Of? starring: William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Michael Strong, Sherry Jackson, Ted Cassidy

This episode began one of the running themes of the original series: a deep-seated mistrust of machine-based intelligence. Oddly, TNG reversed this position, suggesting the polar opposite view that Lt. Commander Data was not only a benevolent being, but entitled to full rights as a person. Philosophically, you have to decide for yourself where you sit between these two extreme views. Machine intelligence: demonic or human?

Another interesting feature of this episode is that it has echoes of the sci-fi classic "Forbidden Planet," more even than "The Menagerie." Kirk beams down to a planet with Nurse Chapel to meet the latter's fiance, Dr. Roger Korby. Not heard from for five years, Korby has discovered the technology of a super, ancient civilization, which is now extinct.

It turns out that this race of people was killed by the android servants ... Read More

This Star Trek film was the best one I have seen altogether. I loved this one very much. The story continues in an on going conflict with the Borg and is exceptionally layed out in a great story concept. The effects, the directing, and the music scores all tie together to make this Star Trek epic a collectible to view over and over again. Jonathan Frakes definitely knows how to direct a Star Trek film and knows what the fans want to see through his eyes. He did great! I recommend this one for all Trek fans to buy.
