VHS : Yoga Journal's Prenatal Yoga
I brought this DVD based on the MANY recommendations and was very disappointed. It is slow, boring and unchallenging. The instructor is sooooo annoying and talks in an over-the-top soft "earth mother" voice.

Instead try the Sarah Hollidays prenatal series, Perfect Pregnancy Workout Vol 2. Yoga or Christine Andersons prenatal yoga DVD.

VHS : Yoga Journal's Yoga Practice for Intermediates with Rodney Yee
I am a certified hatha yoga instructor, and enjoyed this tape and would recommend it. I would caution, however, that it is not appropriate for beginners - but that is why it is titled "for intermediates". To participate with the tape you should already have attended yoga classes, and be fairly familiar with basic postures and the sun salutation. Narrator Yee does do a fairly detailed job, however, providing alignment cues during each posture. These cues, and anatomical directions/details, are well placed within the flow of the narration. I tend to be someone who prefers a class to have a fair amount of silence, and I get annoyed with yoga teachers who prattle on constantly about anatomical details. Yee manages to find a good balance between giving direction and also being silent and his voice is ... Read More

I had been doing Kundalini Yoga for several months and a co-worker suggested I try a Rodney Yee DVD. Boy am I glad I did. The instruction is clear and consise. The movements are slow and challenging. I feel completely stretched and relaxed after completing this workout. I do this one every 3rd day. I combine this workout with Kundalini Yoga w/Raviana and Brian Kest's Power Yoga Series. Combining these workouts and a low-carb diet plan I have successfully lost more than 40 lbs. and changed the way my body looks and feels. I walk straighter and with more confidence. No more backaches, I sleep like a baby.Kundalini Yoga for Beginners & Beyond NEW! I have several Rodney Yee videos (6) and I have enjoyed them all from his power yoga for beginners series to to yoga burn. But this one misses the mark. There is not real flow just a set of posture grouped together. Missing is that trademark Rodney Yee dynamic flow. Nothing about this felt helpful. This one won't join my regular rotation of Yee videos in my practice

VHS : Yoga Journal's Yoga Practice Series
This series is absolutely amazing! Challenging to say the least! Last summer I accepted a job in the Republic of Benin (where I currently reside), afraid I wouldn't be able to find a yoga class upon my arrival, I puchased the series as a "back-up" plan. Unfortunately, though there is a lot of interest in yoga here, there are no teachers. Hence, this series has no only increased my interest, practice and love of yoga, but has also exposed yoga to good number of my Beninese friends. Now, I only wish Yoga Journal would translate the tapes into French, as I still have difficulty translating the advice and guidance Patricia Walden gives while in upward bow!

VHS : Yoga Journal's Yoga for Beginners with Patricia Walden
I thought the video was great for basic thorough instructions, but after learning the positions, I found that it was aggravating to have to wait for all the instructions between positions. I also found that because I can't possibly work all the props in my limited space that I can't effectively use the video. For instance, I don't have any vacant wall space, and I don't have an acrylic "wall" prop to use either. I have bought a number of other yoga videos, I look for good instruction, but I also look for flow, and the main thing I look for is if the positions can be done with minimal space and props.

VHS : Yoga Journal's: Yoga Remedies for Natural Healing: For Beginners
This is the original VHS release of a product that is currently in re-release by Gaiam and titled "Healing Yoga." The video features five short yoga routines (each about 8.5 minutes), so the VHS format makes it somewhat awkward to maneuver from one to the next. The practices are led by yoga instructor Rodney Yee, who teaches via voiceover. In addition to the five main routines, the video begins with a 4-minute "Conscious Breathing" exercise: here Yee leads the viewer through breath awareness while in a reclined position. I have described each of the five main practices in detail below.

Stress. This practice is a bit shorter than the others (7.5 minutes), and it is designed to release tension from the head, neck, and shoulders; Yee demonstrates along with fellow yoga instructor Suzanne Deason. It begins with several ... Read More

VHS : Yoga Journal's Peak Performance Yoga
When I first tried this video, I didn't know what to expect; my only previous experience with Rod Stryker was in the Kathy Smith yoga series, which I did not like. But to my pleasant surprise, I found that Rod teaches in a relaxed, easy-going style that was a perfect fit for me. The DVD actually contains two practices, each just under 30 minutes, that can be performed either separately or combined for a longer practice (this format as well as the general feel of the practice is very similar to Kripalu Yoga Gentle). Rod and a student, Ingrid, perform the practice in a pretty mountaintop field area overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Rod instructs via voiceover, and Ingrid frequently displays modifications of the poses. In general, Rod performs several flowing repetitions of each posture followed by a longer hold, which gave the practice a viniyoga ... Read More

I was really put off by the chanting, I guess mostly because the cover of the box did not tell me this was a chanting yoga video. I also found the instructor's approach to be distracting and annoying. But mostly, it was the chanting.
