VHS : Tai-Chi for Health
Upon inital use of this tape, I felt that it could have gone to a more advanced level. Although it does an adequate job of reviewing basic postures. What is lacking is a thorough workout so that a user will want to use this tape as a guide on a regular basis. Great for beginners but no more.

VHS : T'ai Chi For Health: Yang Long Form
I bought this dvd for my husband who had done this form of Tai Chi twenty years ago. This was the form he has been looking for. If you know the basics of this type of Tai Chi, this dvd is really an excellent refresher course. Sometimes, though it is hard to follow the instructor, but if you watch the dvd first and then practice with the teacher it is a really great program.

Dunn's form is great, and it's beautiful to watch him, but if you've ever been to a Tai Chi (or a dance) class, you'll know that it's almost impossible to learn this sort of movement when the instructor is facing you, as is the case throughout the video. You really need to be behind the instructor so that your right is his/her right and vice versa. Also, and annoyingly, the run-through of the full form is photographed in such a way that you often can't see below Dunn's waist. Good art, I suppose, but worthless if you want to see the foot positions, which is a large part of what you're doing. A close up of the instructors face is of little or no use to me.

As an alternative, I'd suggest "Tai Chi with David Dorian Ross." This DVD has more of a hippie "vibe" to it, which will not sit ... Read More

I bought this tape to supplement a course I am taking. I wanted something to help me with my home practice. As an instructional tape it is excellent. However, It is divided into an instructional section and a practice session. As a beginner, I need both. So I have to go through the instructions then fast forward to the practice... a distraction. A DVD with menu would be a great improvement. By the way, it may seem a bit expensive, however, it is well worth the price.

This has got to be the worst video I have ever seen. The ever changing back ground made me feel like I was watching a Star Trek movie. It looked like they were being beamed around everywhere. At times I felt sea sick. I was really looking forward to this tape. How disappointing it is.

This was an impressive DVD showing rear and side views, starting with warm up, two persons showing front and rear views simultaneously, clearly and slowly taking one through this style of Tai Chi forms and adding gentle warm up exercises with group and solo efforts. This was so good I plan on getting more in the series.

My spouse and I have used this well-done video to learn Tai Chi. We are both retired and it really helps keep us limber and balanced.
Highly recommended!

I liked how clearly she described and demonstrated the movements, but I found her version of the form to be awkward and stilted rather than demonstrating the graceful and free-flowing movements I used to see performed each morning in the parks near our city's Chinatown.

The hand movements are odd and I find it hard to relate them to the martial-arts foundation of tai chi (e.g., other instructors leave the palm facing the opponent for an obvious strike, whereas this tape has you looking as if you just are going to poke their eyes or making a bird's beak--the flow of movements make more sense when you know what the base is rather than remembering by rote the next step is "holding a teabag"). The body movements are also overly restrained in scope--you don't really stretch out for the strike--you seem ... Read More

I really liked this tape. I found the techniques in this video extremely well demonstrated and easy to follow. The heavy use of experienced students in the demonstrations with Dr. Lam give taichi beginners a more realistic goal to aim for than many similar tapes.

I have had multiple orthopedic surgeries and tried other taichi tapes but ended up with knee pain. The sequence Dr. Lam has worked out seems to avoid that problem. I actually found the warm up exercises more challenging than the taichi exercises. I solved that by simply limiting the number of reps and extent of motion.
