This is collection of three of John Wayne's Lone Star Westerns, made in the early part of his career, a short time after he was released by Warner Brother's. They are remastered in color. The color is outstanding, especially when compared to the black and white prints of these three movies that are available. There one serious draw back, however, to this DVD. All three of these movies have had 33 minutes edited out of them. Each is only 22 minutes long. Because of this, each of these films has been renamed. Rodeo Racketeers is the Man from Utah. Claim Jumpers is the Lucky Texan. The Shadow Gang is the Star Packer. Also there has been a musical song track added to each of these films. In the originals, there was no music. Although in no way can this film compare with their days at the Hal Roach studio, in every way "The Bullfighters" rises way above their other Fox efforts and is easily the best of their later films. The opening taxi scene, the inclusion of their reciprocal destruction formula in the water-fountain scene at the El Matador Hotel, Stan's doppelganger in Spanish bullfighter, Don Sebestian and the subsequent comic complications, their entaglement with Richard K. Muldoon as the innocent defendant, now released and planning to "skin the boys alive" (offering parallels with Walter Long in the 1930s) - all helps create the old familiar ambiance of L&H of old. This is a great video for rodeo lovers. The rodeo clowns and bullfighters are such an important part of the rodeo, but seldom seem to get the recognition they deserve. My family and I are huge rodeo fans and we have great admiration for the clowns and bullfighters. Our favorite is Dwayne Hargo. We have been watching him for years and it is so wonderful to see him get hightlighted in this video.
