VHS : Doctor Who - Revenge of the Cybermen
I base my rating of a story on whether or not I was entertained, and if what I just watched left me with a good feeling. This story accomplishes both. I find it hysterical that critics of Doctor Who stories use lack of realism as an argument, as if someone traveling through space and time in a police box is realistic! Cheap sets? Use your imagination. We all have it; it's just that some of us know how to utilize it better than others. Revenge Of The Cyberman is one of the better stories of Tom Baker's first season as the Doctor, certainly better than the "classic" that preceded it.

VHS : Doctor Who - Kinda
Recently having watched this episode for the first time in almost nine years, I was blown away with how well it held up. (The rotten dream sequence towards the end doesn't count, considering the low budget for this show, and can be forgiven.) An Imperialist humanoid race (remarkably similar to the pre-WWI British) is ruthlessly assessing a paradisal world for colonization. The Doctor arrives just in time to prevent a malevolent, non-physical entity called the Mara from exploiting the sure-to-end-deadly conflict between the Kinda (natives) and colonial team, which has become taken over by an insane junior officer bent on total destruction. The Mara's need to feed on the misery of living beings cast an edgy, dangerous shadow on events. I darkly enjoyed the scene where Tegan's reality is denied ... Read More

tom baker as always gives great wit in his acting. Its fast paced and action is great it worth the price of a dvd, but comparing the old doctor who's to the new versions is interesting, you can tell by the sets how old it is but its good fun to watch

VHS : The Twilight Zone Christmas: Night of the Meek
Youtube is a really good thing. I was watching some old Honeymooners skits and remembered how powerful Art Carney's performance in this episode was. I watched it a couple of times today and it really touches me today as it did almost twenty years ago, simply wonderful. Christmas is really more than barging up and down dept store aisles. I wonder how many Christmas specials made today would include the dialogue "and we will thank God for miracles".

VHS : Doctor Who - The Seeds of Doom
Way to go Tom(Tom Baker), you did a fine job. This adventure was really something to admire from start to finish. It was an incredibly well written biogical masterpiece. The doctor battling against killer plants, there just are no words to justifiably convey how cool that really is. -(Triffids anyone?)

A point of interest pertaining to this adventure, is that it was produced during the height of Doctor Who. That high status started right at the end of Jon Pertwee's reign, and continued to about the mid-point of Tom Baker's tenure. Subsequently, each adventure during that time period are a must see, and quite possibly a must own for collectors. If you like your DW adventures a little on the dark side, you won't be disappointed. This adventure in particular has a serious and sinister tone throughout the entirety of the show. ... Read More

VHS : Doctor Who - E-space Trilogy
The E-Space trilogy is wonderful entertainment. If you are a Whovian then I believe you are growing increasingly annoyed with the BBC's reluctance to speed up the production of Dr Who episodes in DVD format. At this rate we'll be all old and senile before we get to see our favorite episodes again. Mine are some Pertwee episodes as well as the Tom Baker and Peter Davison era.
Several other reviewers have already said enough regarding the contents of this series, I just hope there are enough BBC producers reading and heeding my commentary. Also the price for these old shows should be lowered. I would think you'd find a larger buying audience.

This episode is certainly worth owning. To me, it embodies everything that was great about Patrick Stewart's classically influenced TNG acting chops, and the quality and sensibilities that made/make Star Trek so great. In fact, it is this sort of writing that makes science fiction thick and rich with potential. It's about imagination, but imagination within the realm of possibility. How many other worlds are out there now? How many have come and gone before us? This episode explores those very ideas and does it with class, style and panache. I can't explain this episode. Well, I could, but I can't do it justice, just watch. Watch with an open mind and an open heart, and I guarantee you'll come away a bit more sensitive towards the universe around you. You may also notice a haunting tug each time you look at a distant star.

VHS : Dr. Who - Terror of the Zygons
Not quite in the top tier of all time Doctor who stories, but still great fun with a lot of charming qualities.

The model work in this episode was much higher than in many other episodes. The close up of an oil rig was very good for the time this story was created. Another scene that shows the Zygon ship leaving Lochness was also well done for its time.

While the models are very good the LOchness monster was a dud, though it can be partially explained away since it was suppose to be part cyborg. The Zygons themselves are respectable and it was a brilliant idea to have them whisper orders instead of shout, it makes them seem more alien.

The bagpipe music helped add to the atmosphere and enjoyment of this episode, and this is a fun one to watch. It has some influence perhaps from 'The Invasion of the Body Snatchers'. I like the fact that ... Read More

The only aspect of this story that makes my blood boil is near the start when the Doctor is trying to save Cordo's life he tries to tempt him away from the ledge by offering him a Jelly Baby then as the Doctor eats a sweet It's clearly seen the sweet is not a jelly Baby it's a LIQUORICE ALLSORT. Just what on Earth is going on with BBC standards.....
