I caught this movie on TV this morning, had never heard of the book.

Whoa, where to start!

From the opening moments, too much exposition of who, what, where, why and when instead of peppering it out sparingly through the movie.

Everyone is a walking cliche'. I winced when Graham Greene first came on screen dressed like what Hollywood thinks an Indian should look like, he being quiet and so attuned to the "spirits" he could barely speak. I hated that the director chose to "tell" of the Trails of Tears instead of "showing" it to us via flashbacks. In fact I zoned out during this 5 minute disseration and never heard the end.

Little Tree is 8 years old in this story, talks with the wisdom of a 50 year old. Yuk! I HATE that! He speaks in phrases ... Read More

Lone fathers and their kids have been a hit in many movies. I have severl examples, like, Ryan and Tatum O'Neil in Paper Moon, Jon Voight and Ricky Schroeder in the re-make of 'The Champ' and Dustin Hoffman and Justin Henry in Kramer vs Kramer. Gregory Peck, won an Academy Award, for playing a sole parent, and he's never been better. The script for this movie was based upon Harper Lee's sensitive and intelligent novel set in racially-torn Alabama. Gregory Peck, plays Atticus Finch, a wise lawyer bravely raising his two kids Jem(Phillip Alford) and Scout(Mary Badham) in the hot-headed Southern town. The crux of the plot is Finch's defence of a colored man accused of rape. The film was put together by two excellent film-makers, producer Alan J. ... Read More

I just watched this movie again for the 100th time and continue to think its one of the best movies of the 80's. It really captures the feeling of life in the 80's and what it feels like to be a smart teenager who gets treated unfairly. The soundtrack is also awesome- Billy Idol, Wendy O. Williams and Pat Benetar. I read that Benetar loves to rip this movie up in concert before singing the theme. Too bad she is such a idiot not even knowing the coolness that is this movie. Check it out- Fair is Fair! Oh and the Joan of Arc refrence gives it some alternative flair.

this is the best in the three part series. it follows the book almost to a "T" and the acting is splendid. if you have children who are yet too young to read, this is a great way to share the ANNE OF GREEN GABLES experience with them.

I first saw this movie on the Lifetime for Women network channel. I thought it was a touching and heartwarming story of a family trying to stay connected despite tragedy and obstacles. It is so refreshing to see African-Americans depicted as what they are: flesh and blood human beings. I rarely see this movie run during the holiday season. I am so glad I was able to purchase this video through an Amazon seller in order that my children see Christmas and the holiday spirit reflected in their beautiful Black images. The movie can be a little over the top with drama, but aren't most holiday movies? This movie needs to be on DVD. I loved the acting and the message of unconditional love and family.

I guess I didn't miss much by not reading this book as a child. I don't really understand why it became a classic. It starts out interestingly enough with a very gothic setting. A little British girl named Mary survives a cholera epidemic in India and is sent to Yorkshire to live with her distant relatives. The author gives a vivid description of the beauty of the moors and the mysterious mansion that the girl goes to live in. The only other interesting part is really when Mary discovers the boy...more I guess I didn't miss much by not reading this book as a child. I don't really understand why it became a classic. VHS : The Little Kidnappers with Charlton Heston
A very appealing cast makes this movie, set in the early 1900s, an enjoyable time. Charlton Heston plays a gruff old farmer in Nova Scotia who has lost his son in the Boer War in South Africa. His son's boys come to live with him, their grandmother, and their daughter.

The two boys are wonderfully played by two youngsters, Leo Wheatley and Charles Miller, the daughter is the beautiful Leah Pinsent, and the doctor by Bruce Greenwood. Greenwood, who looks like a young Sam Neill, has gone on to have a fine movie career, and can be seen in 'The World's Fastest Indian'.

Grandfather James MacKenzie bears a hatred of the Boers (Dutch). The doctor, who falls in love with Kirsten, is a Boer.

The young boys find a surprise on the family beach.

With the exception ... Read More

VHS : Ray Bradbury's Electric Grandmother
As a retired school teacher, I have seen this video once a year for 25 years 5-7 times a day. I would cry every time, every class, every period. My kids thought I was crazy. I think that it is more truly appreciated as we get older, watch our parents and grandparents become older, that the child becomes the parent and vice versa. The story of the grandmother finally breaking through to Agatha is tender and true, but the ending holds the true message of the story....the circle of life. I always found that my high school kids got the message better, above and beyond the quirky grandma with milk pouring from her fingertips, as evidenced in their papers and reviews.

Have you seen the Twilight Zone version? Of course it's in black and white, and doesn't really do justice to the tenderness of Bradbury's ... Read More
