a tremendous entry in the delightful amicus multi-scary-story films of the 1960s and 70s . all are worth checking out (ownership of all titles is a great investment) . they just don't make them like this any more . and never will again .

VHS : The Twilight Zone Christmas: Night of the Meek
Youtube is a really good thing. I was watching some old Honeymooners skits and remembered how powerful Art Carney's performance in this episode was. I watched it a couple of times today and it really touches me today as it did almost twenty years ago, simply wonderful. Christmas is really more than barging up and down dept store aisles. I wonder how many Christmas specials made today would include the dialogue "and we will thank God for miracles".

VHS : Twin Peaks: Episodes 1-29
David Lynch is a genius. A mini series is a very difficult genre because each episode is rather long and must end with some unsolved suspense. Moreover altogether it is many hours on one single essential piece of suspense and it runs the risk of getting boring, of slowing down and of losing interest for the audience. What's more that genre is used quite a lot on American television with the soap operas. That miniseries also runs the risk of being compared today with the film, and of course it is. The film is short, dynamic and to the point all the time, perfectly concentrating on one single line of suspense. So what can David Lynch do to rejuvenate the genre, to regenerate the rules and inspiration of that genre? He does a lot and that's where he becomes a genius. First he embeds in his own miniseries short ... Read More

follow along on a 2.5 hour trip through the mind of Lynch, who enjoys being strange just to be strange. why are we subjected to the first half hour of nonsense?

As a fan of the TV series I enjoyed seeing a much darker side of LeLand Palmer then we saw in the TV series. Ray Wise delivers a strong performance. Sorry not to see Lara Flynn Boyle as Donna, her replacement was not even close.

VHS : The X-Files: Humbug/Anasazi
Until recently, I had never seen an episode of "The X-Files" and when I watched a tape with two episodes, I had only a vague idea of what was going on. The storyline was heavily dependent on the context established by previous episodes, so it was difficult to understand.
Happily, that was not the case for the "Humbug" episode. It was very easy to understand and is an example of something that would at first appear impossible. It is an intense murder mystery involving a bizarre serial killer, yet it is also humorous. It closes with one of the best lines of dialog ever uttered, even though it is a cliche.
Mulder and Scully are on the trail of a serial killer that gouges out a large section of the victim's abdomen. Their travels take them to a trailer park inhabited by ex-sideshow acts. The people have deformities ... Read More

VHS : The X-Files Boxed Set - V. 6 (Wetwired, Talitha Cumi, Pusher, Jose Chung's "From Outer Space", Piper Maru, and Apocrypha)
This is probably my favorite boxed set of the series' high points of Season 3 up to this moment. In it is the crazily-paced and funny episode "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'", with old comic actor Charles Nelson Reilly playing the investigative author, Chung. Scully is interviewed by Chung about a strange incident that leads to other strange incidents involving alien abductions and subsequent military cover-ups; remarkably, all the sources for Chung's upcoming book never agree on what really happened. Minnesota residents and fans of "Jeopardy" will enjoy the cameos of pre-guv Jesse Ventura and Alex Trebek as men in black! The two-part episodes, "Piper Maru" and "Apocrypha", find Mulder and Scully investigating the eerie fate of a French naval crew who show the effects of radioactive scorching after finding the wreck of a World War II-era ... VHS : The Twilight Zone: Eye of the Beholder/ Living Doll
Your heart kind of goes out for Telly Savalas in LIVING DOLL. As much of the no-good creep of a stepfather he is you just gotta feel bad for this guy as he gets outdone by a doll, Talky Tina. The doll is almost as evil as he is and this becomes very evident in the final scene at the bottom of the living room staircase. A lot of the ambiguous feelings the viewer feels is the result of Bermard Herrmann's innovative score. It has a childlike quality that taunts and teases both Telly Savalas and the viewer. This is an excellent episode from the 5th season and the entire series for that matter. THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER also taunts the main character and the viewer. The suspense of what lies beneath those bandages is unbearable. This story is not only a parable of beauty being in the eye of the beholder but makes a strong statement on fascism. Bernard ...
