VHS : Psycho (1960)
I have never forgotten this movie from the first time I saw it in a theater. The shower scene scared me along with a lot of others there. At the time I had a Ford like Janet Leigh drove in the movie and would not open the trunk for a couple of weeks. I have it on tape and just had to add the Special Edition to my DVD collection of Hitchcock movies. It is one of his best. The fools that thought they could remake this movie were nuts. Part of what makes the movie so good is that it is in black and white. Besides no one can out do the master when it comes to mystery and the way he seemed to know the best actors for the roles. No one was as good at playing a Psycho as Tony Perkins.

VHS : Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2
Basically this is a predictable follow-up to the fantastic 1984 Christmas slashfest 'Silent Night Deadly Night' which, naturally, passes the torch to Billy's younger brother, Ricky. Featuring a fantastic moody score (including a haunting, atonal theme) the film is entertaining but ends up spending about half the runtime in flashback of mostly scenes from the first flick as Ricky explains how he turned homicidal like his brother. The nasty Mother Superior returns once again near the end of the flick. If you liked the original, definitely see this one (I have yet to the other sequels, but I'm sure I'd recommend them as well). Nowhere near as good as the first one though.

VHS : Jack's Back
This little viewed film of the 1980's put James Spader on the map. What a performance! Spader, along with the always reliable Robert Picardo and a surprisely effective Cynthia Gibbs navigate this up-to-date version of the Jack the Ripper Tale. A really creepy film. Enjoy!

VHS : Hitcher
This is a brilliant movie because...well of many things. Most noteworthy is the transformation of C. Thomas Howell's character, which goes from the average kid driving across the country, to the man who is ready to meet the battle head on. And the build-up of suspense and tension is pretty good..had me on the edge of my seat several times.
Plus it has a great ending, where you come out of it and feel that all is right again with the world, because the battle ended with good triumphing over evil.
Not a movie I'd recommend for younger kids though...there isn't a lot of gore, but the scare factor is there...plus the bad guy isn't some alien, he looks like the guy you pass on the street.

HAPPY THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY, MICHAEL MYERS!!!

"Halloween: Resurrection" is the best sequel since "Halloween II." It is everything a slasher flick should be: attractive young coeds in peril; an abandoned house; unique death sequences (Jen's beheading was excellent - loved it when the head bounced down the stairs); an eerie soundtrack; dark humor; tension galore; and a beautiful female lead who, towards the end, runs screaming through corridors and up and down stairs while discovering dead bodies. It is very reminiscent of the slasher films that I loved to watch in the eighties.

Jamie Lee Curtis, scream queen of the eighties, briefly reprises her role as Laurie Strode. We learn that she has been locked away in a psychiatric hospital for three years. She is emotionally ... Read More

VHS : Final Destination 2
Final Destination 2 starring A.J. Cook and Ali Larter is so awful you have to see it to believe it. The beginning is the most interesting part but after that the death scenes are lame and completely vile. I just hated this sequel, the original is so much better, check that one out instead. And the acting is the worst I have ever seen as well.

"Has the diabolical Jason finally met his match?" Uh, no. Corey Feldman, people; we are talking about Corey Feldman here. Of all the people on the planet, Corey Feldman is just about the last person capable of taking Jason out of the game. Truly, I had forgotten that Feldman was Jason's main event opponent in this "final chapter" of the series. Rightly or wrongly, that just takes something away from what is otherwise a darn good sequel's sequel's sequel - until the ending, anyway. Personally, I think this series jumped the shark when Feldman's character devised his unique plan for facing Jason face to face. In fact, I consider the shark re-jumped in the final frame of the film. It's still a strong entry in the series, the last one that actually tries to scare the audience, but the ending is just a little too ... Read More
