VHS : Frankenstein
Given that I already own The Monster Legacy Collection (Frankenstein / Dracula / The Wolf Man) (busts and all), I hemmed, hawed, and read other reviews prior to purchasing the 75th Anniversary Edition. However, an Amazon seller listed an offer I couldn't refuse, so I bit and, all things considered, have no cause for regrets.
The Good: First, the print looks and sounds better than the previous releases. Nice and clean with deep blacks, good contrast, and very little damage, the video is solid and a pleasure to watch. However, I'm especially appreciative of the audio remastering--it sounds terrific for the first time (at least in my opinion).
A treasure trove of juicy extras are included, the jewel in the crown being Kevin Brownlow's Universal Horror, which I've caught on TCM. Also ... Read More

I think this was an okay movie (maybe this is because I never saw the first one or the second one). I thought it was really, really stupid, but my friend and I liked the pizza singing part--we kept cracking up every few seconds. The movie had very cheesy effects, bad actors, and at some parts you are just disgusted by how bad a movie can be. Since I'm not the type of person that would walk away from a bad movie (I stuck through half of "Leatherface" before escaping that stupid movie by doing homework) I stuck through the end, and there are two good parts (one is the pizza). The second is very touching, when the wife remembers her husband with the projector thingy that was spilling memories out to her. That part was good too, but the rest of the movie just was plain boring, bad, and awful. Make ... Read More

VHS : Night of Dark Shadows
Those that are not fans of Dark Shadows will never see the "Dan Curtis" creativity in this movie. The late Dan Curtis was like a Gene Roddenberry when it came to daytime horror drama. Underappreciated and never quite understood, he made us love to be scared. Night of Dark Shadows, gives David Selby and Kate Jackson (a very young Kate Jackson) a chance to standout on their own from the other cast members in their own movie. David Selby is quite versital and shows that he can portray more than one character and personality within a movie. Kate's role is unfortunately limited to just being suspicious and scared all the time. The plot is definately done in Curtis' style, moving quickly through the layers of suspense.

Panned as one of the worst movies -- I don't think so -- you gotta be a fan to ... Read More

I read recently on a Dark Shadows convention website that the 2 Dark Shadows films will soon be released on a double DVD, both restored!

Dark Shadows is one of the best TV shows ever(IMOHO). Dan Curtis made a HUUUUGE mistake in the 'House of Dark Shadows' movie by killing off nearly the entire Collins clan. i think that maybe he was tired of it all, and had no idea of the cult-like following that would develop around this series.

Too bad.

First, imagination if you will, a college student out there, somewhere, decides to write a script that deals with the philosophy of evil. Then that person gets some money. Let us say, oh, five dollars or more. Maybe more. Maybe he found some coins in his Dad's old truck. He runs over to a garage sale and buys a camera in which he stuffs in some black and white film. Then he hires some of the best actors, like Christopher Walken, and some others to play in his story. Then he films it. Some scenes are in the street. In fact most are. But he does dish out some money for some better places. Like restrooms and art museums. More likely art stores. No editors are involved. Nobody of any skill is used to help in the movie but the actors, who has trash to work with and a director who is, as we have said before, ... Read More

"Night Of The Demons" is one of those little rarities that stuck with me for 20 years now. God I love this movie !!!

This movie has it all. Creepy house, fantastic gothic lighting, floating demons (not the walking kind), fantastic gore scenes and more !!

As all horror movies, not to be taken too serious. It didn't win any Oscars but to me that's a good thing because all award winning movies suck !

The chick in the movie did exactly what the cover says "She hunts to mate, she mates to kill." Adult scenes were great. I just wished there were a few more scenes of that girl. Oh well.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (Collector's Edition)
A beautiful and tragic love story. The connection between Mina and Dracula is powerful and soulful. You sympathize with Dracula's deep sorrow for having lost the love of his life. Mina is his reincarnated lost love. The costumes, erotic intimations, imagery, and cinematography are breath-taking. The characters are painted in a sophmoric stroke, save for Gary Oldman's portrayal of Vlad/Dracula. He is stunning in this role.

'The Shining',where would we be without Stanley Kubrick's distorted version of Stephen King's classic novel?the horror industry would be at a standstill. This is my absolute favorite of horror-films,it's a very dark film indeed.Believe it or not, this film is not much like the novel the one made for TV in early 2000 had more elements from the book not mentioned in the 1980 version-which actually works for me:)kubrick unlocked the darkest doors to his imagination when he made this film.Everything from the creepy little twins,to the Timberline Lodge Hotel(shown as the Overlook Hotel in the movie).Down to the old song you hear in the ballroom which was written in the 20's or 30's by Ray Noble and his Mayfair Dance Orchestra and the eerie film score by Wendy Carlos. There's not too many people who haven't seen this film and i've never met someone ...
