I love this movie. I haven't seen it in years and I am dismayed to learn that it isn't available on DVD yet. This is one of the best teen movies I have ever seen. It's sweet, honest, funny and kind.

Please release Angus on DVD soon powers that be. Thanks!

VHS : Ode to Billy Joe
*********** SPOILER ALERT ***********

This was a well-acted portrayal of teen heartache and heartbreak.

The lyrics of the theme song by Bobbie Gentry allegedly had some basis in truth.

Max Baer Jr.'s production of this film gave him a vehicle to break out of his "Jethro Bodine" stereotype.

A young Mackenzie Philips played Bobbie Lee's friend.

When I saw this film as a youth one of my schoolmates reached the conclusion that "Billy Joe was gay". I disagreed then and I still do.

Billy Joe was young, intoxicated, and taken advantage of by an older man. There was nothing to suggest that he was on the prowl, searching for male partners. If anything, he was totally in love with and attracted to his girl.

VHS : Mask
`Mask' is the type of film that moves you to tears. It is genuinely sweet and sincere and heartbreaking as well as heartwarming. It is true that the film can, at times, feel forced and manipulative, but who doesn't like having their feelings manipulated in this manner. The true story of Rocky Dennis is inspirational and poignant and one that we all should take to heart; and `Mask' gives us the opportunity to do just that.

The film recounts the final year of Rocky's life. Growing up with a rare disease (craniodiaphyseal dysplasia) was not easy for Rocky, but with the support from his very strong and very loving mother Rusty, Rocky was able to make it through. Teased by other kids and humiliated by teachers, Rocky learned at a young age to form a thick skin, and his mother's defensive and ... Read More

Please note: I will be giving some of the plot away.

For anyone who views this film and thinks "underage sex" and/or "porn", there are some subtleties that need to be explored.

There is no reason to believe that the Chinaman sought out underage girls. If anything, his station in Chinese royalty probably provided him with female companionship until (and perhaps after) his arranged marriage.

Through no effort on his part the schoolgirl appeared in his orbit and he found himself unable to look away. This is a rare thing to experience and it is awfully hard to resist.

If we generally only see Leung and March having sex, we need to factor in that her jailbait status and the inter-racial nature of their relationship would not have allowed them to carry on a normal courtship. ... Read More

VHS : Summer of 42
Occasionally some person or some event lifts our spirits high above the normal plane of existence and we experience a beauty and a joy that we never knew existed and yet, once experienced, leaves us somehow changed forever. The Summer of '42 had that effect upon me.

I wonder if all of our various experiences of love, beauty, truth etc. are but pale emanations from our Creator who sometimes allures us, not with greatness, but with an overwhelming humility, painful gentleness and sheer beauty?

While the subject matter of Summer of '42 could hardly be described as being of high moral character, it nevertheless sounded a note in me whose very existence I was previously unaware.

Perhaps it was the beauty of Jennifer O'Neill; perhaps it was the stirring words of the narrator ..... for no person ... Read More

I general like Shakespeare to be done in the time it was written for. However, I enjoy anything that Leonardo DiCaprio or Clair Dane does and totally enjoy this film eventhough it has been brought up to date. I give it four stars only because of this.
