VHS : No Time for Sergeants
It arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The condition was ok, not great but ok. It did appear as if it came from a video rental company which was a bit troubling. All in all it was an ok experience although I think for the condition a bit overpriced.

VHS : Pride & Prejudice (1995) (6pc) (Coll Box)
This is by far the best version of "Pride and Prejudice". I believe I have seen every one of them and none compares. Laurence Olivier was great of course as Darcy, but Colin Firth has completely captured the character. I doubt that any one will ever be able to portray Darcy better.
I am extremely satified that I purchased the 10th Anniversary Collector's Edition even though I all ready had the original DVD of the same produecton. It is definitely well worth the price. I strongly recommend it to every one. The DVDs come in a beautifully designed case, and I thoroughly enjoyed the accompanying behind-the-scenes disc. Even though Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle were busy making other movies and could not be on it, the remaining cast members were very entertaining. The accompanying book, ... Read More

VHS : I Love Lucy Christmas Special
"I Love Lucy" was such a wonderful series and a landmark in television history which has been in a constant state of rerun since it first premiered in the early 1950's. It was such a success because of the superb talents of the four main leads, brilliant writing, and a great care shown for how the stories of the trials and tribulations of the Ricardo's and the Mertz's were presented.

In this video we have a unique installment from the classic series in the one and only Christmas special produced during the shows run and it has been rarely seen since its first and only screening in the 1950's as it wasn't included in the original rerun deal because of its specific Christmas theme. The episode is a warm and funny one with the cast of Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, William Frawley and Vivian Vance ... Read More

VHS : The Mr. Bill Collection (The Best of Saturday Night Live)
All the material on this disk plus more is contained in the three-disk Definitive Collection which at the time of this writing is in print, available on Amazon, and very inexpensive (especially through 3rd-party sellers). What the D.C. lacks is any printed material that might be included with this Anchor Bay release.
Mr. Bill, BTW, seemed a lot funnier to me during his SNL run (this seems to be the general consensus), but even with hindsight, I'd probably still purchase the D.C., if only for an inexpensive trip down Memory Lane. Rating reflects the material, which I have seen, and not this particular release, which I haven't.

VHS : MTV - The State - Skits and Stickers
I happened upon this VHS in a Blockbuster clearance rack about 10 years ago and grabbed it right away. The State had been one of my favorite shows and I needed my 'fix.'

The selection of skits here is great and quite varied. There are a couple notable omissions including Captain Monterey Jack, Old Fashioned Guy and Hits from the 70s. However, if you love off-beat humor and want a good sample of what The State had to offer, this is a great introduction.

VHS : Animal Farm (1999)
This is a well-done adaptation of the book. It isn't perfect, but kids like it much better than the 1950s cartoon version. For teachers looking for a good version to accompany the book, I recommend it. I have used both and sometimes use both as a good jumping off place for discussion.

7.Time Of Their Lives starring: Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Marjorie Reynolds, Binnie Barnes, John Shelton

VHS : Time Of Their Lives
In the early 1940's Bud Abbot and Lou Costello produced many many 'b' films for universal. The usual pattern was that bullying Abbot and Child like Costello somehow get involved with mad scientists, gangsters and adventurers concocting wild schemes. Prat falls and chases are their stock in trade. This film however was a break from that pattern and the effect is magic.

It starts in Revolutionary New York where Lou is a struggling tinker and Bud the major Domo for a Tory land owner. This seems pretty much in their usual patter but in short order Lou is mistaken for a British spy and along with the lady of the mannor murdered and cursed.

Time passes and their ghosts, trapped by the curse, are doomed to linger on the grounds of the manor until they can prove their innocence.

VHS : Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein
Before GHOSTBUSTERS there was ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN! The last harrah for the original Universal monsters -- not to be seen until the Hammer revival a decade later. Amazingly, despite his identification with Count Dracula, Lugosi only played the character in the 1931 original and this movie. Glenn Strange (best remembered as the bartender of the Long Branch in the tv series GUNSMOKE) returns as the Monster, Lon Chaney Jr as Larry Talbot, the Wolfman. Never mind why he is after Dracula, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter how Dracula's female assistant discovered poor Wilbur. This is a laugh fest with a few old fashioned frights along the way. "Ohhhhhhhhh, Chick!" This film also reworks one gag from HOLD THAT GHOST, the moving candle, this time on Dracula's coffin. Extras include a 40+ minute documentary ... Read More

VHS : Sex and the City - The Complete Second Season
Te second season of SATC gives us a better history of the girls and what their characters are like. They fall into their roles as the story lines get better. It becomes more about friends rather than Carrie doing research for her column. A must have for any SATC fan.
