How can it be that Walter Matthau's best performance, especially a comedy performance, is not available on DVD? It's a shame, because this is arguably the most brilliant dark comedy from that wonderful golden age of grown-up films from the mid 60s to the mid 70s. This movie is way too funny and brilliant to be this undercover and cult. Elaine May is to comedy what Coppola and Scorsese were to drama. Her writing is as good as comedy writing gets, and her performance gives a glimpse at how wonderful a comic actress she really is. No B.S. either. This one of the great comedies. Can't believe it's not on dvd. Not to be missed. I remember seeing this on tv when I was a little girl and thinking, that is a wonderful world those two people live in. It played the midnight show in college and the crowd ... Read More

Excellent interpretation of Homer's Odyssey with a rare accurate portrayal of the South of the 1930s. Excellent character actors and outstanding music played in the period style.

I recently purchased this classic black and white movie starring Cary Grant, and I really liked it. I had seen it many times when I was younger but the last time I had seen it was several years ago late at night on some satellite channel. When I first watched this dvd I realized that the version I had always seen on T.V. had been edited. The difference between the dvd and T.V. version were that the introductory screen credits to the movie was a Halloween cartoon and there were several other scenes that had been edited or deleted altogether. There were a few special features but nothing too exciting.
I would have rated this movie as perfect except for the fact that it has outdated slapstick humor and of course it is only b&w (black and white). I would have preferred for it to be available ... Read More

I love this movie. In my opinion, it's hands-down the best comedy ever made. These extras are LAME though. Stop raping my wallet, Universal! Get the Coens involved and give us fans some worthwhile extras. This aggression will not stand. Put out one more lousy revamp of the same old thing again and you're entering a world of pain... a world of pain.

Red Skelton is, without a doubt, one of the greatest entertainers of the last century. His simple, charming, often self-effacing humor is something you could show to a young child and not be worried about corrupting influences. His comedy was always clean and fun. That's in short supply these days.
Unfortunately, this is on VHS, so the market supply is limited. I hope they put all of his movies on DVD soon. A comic genius like Red Skelton needs to be introduced to a new generation.

What were they thinking? Perhaps director Garry Marshall thought he could do for S&M what he'd done for the women of the evening in Pretty Woman. Wrap up an edgy topic in a big cute bow, and through humor make it palatable, even entertaining, to the masses. But you thought wrong Mr. Marshall. Actually, it is a surprisingly entertaining movie, it is just that most of the humor is unintentional. You can't believe the movie got green lighted when it was so obviously doomed to be a disaster.

They took a novel by Anne Rice, written under the pseudonym of Anne Rampling (a name she chose as a tribute to actress Charlotte Rampling) and then they grafted on a totally gratuitous story about international jewell thieves and the cops (played by Dan Akroyd and Rosie O'Donnell??? and no, I am not making ... I remember watching this movie as a kid. It really has memorable songs, and cute aspects that make an otherwise violent subject (prohibition-era gangsters) humorous. It was cool finding a clean DVD.

I totally agree with these reviewers: "Kaleidoscope" needs to be on DVD because the writing is on the wall and that is: Movies on CD's are here to stay. My estimation is that it will come out sometime next year as part of a Warren Beatty box set that Warner Brothers has been doing the last two years since as you know "Bonnie and Clyde" is most likely to be re-released on DVD to celebrate its 40th anniversary (yikes!) and be in that set. Let's wait and see.

This movie is simple, but the cat and dog are great. I do resent the fact that I can't take it over to DVD, considering it is out of print.
