The Chinese writing/Jodie Foster cover is kind of funny/weird but still, it's the same movie I saw as a kid. After reading some reviews here I find that people either love or hate this movie. I love it because it's part of my childhood. My brother and I saw it in the mid-seventies when I was around 6 and the songs stuck with us for life. He told me he often sings "So You Wanna Be a Boxer" while working and no one ever gets the reference. It is obscure but shouldn't be. Aside from the two big stars that would come out of it the movie is amazingly well done for it's time. The sets, dance routines, props (how about those pedal powered limos!), costumes and unforgettable music suggest that the producers really put their hearts into it. Yes, they plagerize mobster films to the tee but that's the point ... Read More

A Clockwork Orange (Two-Disc Special Edition)

'A Clockwork Orange' the movie, whether accepted by the author of the book or not, is very witty, scary, shocking (even today), and humorous in several different instances.

It would be difficult to see a new adaptation of the movie without judging by how well crafted the original truly is.

This movie, although disturbing at times, is definately worth buying and adding it to your collection of classics. It will forever fit in the modern day world whether a year from now, or one hundred years from now.

Light hearted look at middle class ennui and a bright way out for the imaginative. A good lesson for us all. Enjoy it all the way and enjoy this movie. It really is 4+ for me, not just a plain 4. Pauline Collins was terrific. It feels as if you are her best friend and she is guiding you through her life. Oh heck, give it a 5.

DVD would not work in any of my players even the new ones. It came with a little note in it that tells you you need new software to get it to run in most DVD players. I am returning it.

One must never compare the Stage to the Film when it comes to musicals. Sometimes they are better than the original. Sometimes worse. ALWAYS different! That's just the nature of the transition. This is one of the great film musicals of all time. It's just not Sandy Wilson's "The Boy Friend". I love the stage play as well. This is a musical film about a production of the stage musical with all kinds of backstage intrigue as well as the terrific device of seeing a number "as is", as the director would have done if only he had money, and as the film maker in attendance would make a movie of the same number. Divine!

VHS : Saving Grace
The film opens with a funeral. Grace (Brenda Blethyn) has just lost her husband to some unusual circumstances.

As the story unfolds, you realize that widowhood is not all she's facing. Grace is literally about to lose everything due to her former husband's poor financial decisions. It's going to take a miracle to save her home.

Scotsman Matt (Craig Ferguson) could use a miracle, too. With his wage check from Grace bouncing, he's about to have to leave England and go home. Since Grace owes him, he asks her to help him save a marijuana plant he's been growing to sell.

Grace has more than a green thumb. A partnership is born and the two have devoted Grace's greenhouse to the illegal plant. Trouble comes when they have to figure out how to sell it.

Both Grace and Matt are hilarious, ... Read More

VHS : Casino Royale
"Casino Royale" from the '60s bears little resemblance to the sexy 007 movie that was released recently with the hot Daniel Craig. It's quite psychedelic, with its vast cast ranging from the comedian Woody Allen to the famous Bond girl Ursula Andress. The visuals (for its time) are stunningly psychedelic. Despite its "international cast",it's confusing, unfunny, and unwatchable. When Samuel L. Jackson ordered a "Royale with cheese" in "Pulp Fiction",he may well have been referencing this cheesy, campy, out there film.

"Casino Royale" has more than one James Bond, some of whom are women (gender confusion! how timely!) David Niven is an uptight English lord, while Woody Allen is a nebbish. There are numerous renowned sirens of the '60s,but their sex appeal doesn't add any spice to this strangely bland "thriller." The finale has everything ... Read More

VHS : Pride and Prejudice: The Complete BBC Miniseries
Well, love the book, but this adaptation is my least favorite after 2005 and 1995 (Colin Firth) versions. I am a strong believer in a great sexual attraction between Elizabeth and Darcy (after all, what else could have attracted a rich man to a poor girl in those days?). Didn't see any chemistry between them in this film. Darcy was so stiff, I couldn't find anything attractive about him, whereas I fantacise (A LOT!) about Colin Firth's and Matthew McFayden's Darcys. Elizabeth Bennett is nice enought, cute and witty, but appeared a litlle gold-diggerish in this version. Didn't like how Lydia's storyline was portrayed either. But overall worth watching
