VHS : Somewhere in Time
This is a fantasy movie from start to finish. But it is very well cast and the props and scenic backdrops are fantastic. Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour are wonderfully romantic. A love story about time travel for the ages in my opinion. It's my all time favorite.

2.Donnie Darko starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone, Mary McDonnell, Holmes Osborne, Maggie Gyllenhaal
directed by: Richard Kelly

VHS : Donnie Darko
This bloodless production's period costume design, cars, TV newscasts and popular music do nothing to make it seem like anything other than a product of this torpid decade; you can't sell a counterfeit 1988 to a fledgling of that enormous, tacky era. If I want '80s teen angst or surrealism, I'll consult the genuine article and watch some old David Lynch or John Hughes films (separately), all of which have what this film doesn't: character, substance and zeitgeist without all the hokey pretension of this boring, distended exercise.

The novelty of this movie's time-travel plot gimmick can't sustain its numerous uninspired scenarios, complete dearth of appealing and interesting characters, vast array of moronic clichés and Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is surely the most irritating actress ... Read More

Normally I am not a consumer of sci fi movies or television shows. My brother convinced me years ago to watch this with him, and I am so glad he did! I laughed myself to tears and had to watch it again to catch some of the jokes I had missed the first time. It's one of the few movies that I have watched over and over throughout the years. I have an old VHS copy, and I was thrilled to find this DVD re-release. If you have an open mind, an appreciation for humor, and some good friends to watch it with, you just might love this movie as much as we do.

4.Bad Taste starring: Costa Botes, Graham Butcher, Michael Gooch, Peter Gooch, Robin Griggs

VHS : Bad Taste
This movie is pretty much tongue in cheek sci fi.
Jack in the golden arches from outer space wants to Kentucky fry
humans. The aliens seem unstoppable after butchering a small
New Zealand town. To the rescue is an odd team of young commandos.
The rest is a shoot out between the heroes and the invaders.
As bad as the dialog and special effects are
the comedy touches kind of make up for it.
I just don't much like horror movies...

What a wack-attack movie. It was a lot of fun. Couple of dry spots where we had to remember what we were watching but overall a great movie. But then we love those old cult classics. If there are more movies with this nut Dr. Morgus we'd buy them too.

VHS : Fly (1950)
The best laid plans of mice and men, not to mention flies.

This is first rate science fiction, but of a heart-wrenching variety.

This story is a bit in the spirit of Jack London tales, where some spirited individual gets crushed (in this case, literally), by going out too far on his own.

In this case the spirited individual is a family man who happens to be a scientific genius, developing in his basement the first matter teleportation device. It works, but he fails to realize that the wilderness he confronts in it is not as user friendly as his wife and kid. It confuses him with a fly (which was in the disintegrator with him but escaping his notice). In other words he escapes nature's notice, which didn't bother to distinguish him from the fly, treating him with ... Read More

I can only guess. It's not released due to hints of beastiality in the movie Island of Lost Souls??? IF so that's just rubbish.

Island of Lost Souls is a great, classic Friday night B&W horror flick that no collection should be without. Period. But we are forced to have a VHS or cheap bootleg. Mystery Of the Wax Museum is hardly a point of discussion here, a nice to have, but Island is a MUST HAVE!

Here is exactly what we need in a collection:
Island Of Lost Souls
Murders In The Zoo
House Of Horrors
The Mad Ghoul

Now how cool of a collection would that be???

HELLO Universal!!! Anyone home??

VHS : Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
I don't think a movie has become such an "urban legend" or a "myth movie" as much as "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" has. Sure, there are legendary cult films like "Night of the Living Dead", "Eraserhead" and "Killer Klowns From Outer Space", but "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" has basically become the prototype for all the B-movie parodies on TV sketches, the basis for plots on your Saturday morning cartoons, and the definitive "everybody's heard about it, but only half the people have actually seen it" film.
A lot of people would dismiss this film as being dumb, or a cheap rip-off parody, but if you've got a bit of cult-film love in your heart, are entertained by strange comedies and ever considered what would happen if your garden veggies imitated "Jaws" at one point or another (because that DID happen in this flick!), well then, "Attack ...
