this is the best in the three part series. it follows the book almost to a "T" and the acting is splendid. if you have children who are yet too young to read, this is a great way to share the ANNE OF GREEN GABLES experience with them.

This is a wonderful movie set in the 50's about a little girl who adores her neighbor who lives across the street. A GREAT movie that should be released on DVD so that everyone can enjoy.

Please note: I will be giving some of the plot away.

For anyone who views this film and thinks "underage sex" and/or "porn", there are some subtleties that need to be explored.

There is no reason to believe that the Chinaman sought out underage girls. If anything, his station in Chinese royalty probably provided him with female companionship until (and perhaps after) his arranged marriage.

Through no effort on his part the schoolgirl appeared in his orbit and he found himself unable to look away. This is a rare thing to experience and it is awfully hard to resist.

If we generally only see Leung and March having sex, we need to factor in that her jailbait status and the inter-racial nature of their relationship would not have allowed them to carry on a normal ... Read More

I know that this is quite different from the original story, but it's still a good movie. It's Hollywood-ized, but it's not so Hollywood-ized that it just flings Benny back into Jack's arms as if nothing happened.

I hadn't watched this and years and popped the DVD in to see if I wanted to keep it or resell it. I think I'll keep it. I'd forgotten how good a movie it is. It's such a relief these days to see a film with so many reasonable, believable characters when so many movies now seem to sell themselves on outlandishness.

It was HUGELY refreshing to see a girl who really is big--tall and solid--playing a character that's supposed to be big. She is not at all unattractive and is not portrayed as plain, awkward, or "nerdy" (as un-beauties usually are). She's just not a silver-screen ... Read More

I am surprized everybody likes this movie. Not me. If the movie is not on public channels its not worth it. Like my favored " When Harry met Sallie" which is shown regularly and after I watched it about 20 times I start thinking--United States is communistic country after all.
Additional trouble is I cannot buy this "Time of the gypsies" which again and again proves we dont need it.
Hahaha.

Ten-year-old Pixote (Portuguese slang word for, "PeeWee")is one of the millions of homeless children in Brazil. He is arrested in a typical police round-up and placed in their vesion of the United States Junenvile detention centers. although them film is about the kids down in Brazil, some 20 years ago.... You would be surprised to know,... that the US system is not much better, today, than what is portrayed in this movie! The kids in the US judical and foster care systems are treated pretty much the same way as these kids are treated 20 years ago in a third world country! Some people may look at this film and say, " Oh those poor kids down there in Brazil....", but what they don't know is that nothing has changed down there and it is much the same with the kids here... in America!!!

I initially found this film while watching Henry & June. It's one of the films they watch at the movie theater. If you are a fan of early film or a history buff into pre-Nazi Germany movies... or a collector of homosexual or feminist films... then this is definitely worth purchasing. An interesting fact is that this film is pieced together in parts because the original was destroyed by the Nazis. It was reformatted from various copies, so you will see some sections with different types of subtitles.. and different levels of quality. My only complaint is that some of the subtitles are impossible to read because they are white... and there is a great deal of white clothing etc that interferes with reading. Still, a great collectors item!

10.Amarcord starring: Magali Noël, Bruno Zanin, Pupella Maggio, Armando Brancia, Ciccio Ingrassia

VHS : Amarcord
Federico Fellini's 1973 Amarcord is a film that has often been linked with Ingmar Bergman's Fanny & Alexander as films by old men looking back on their youth. While this is true, in the main, the fact is that Amarcord has a loose narrative structure, in which the lives of many characters are detailed in comic vignettes, whereas Fanny & Alexander is a straight drama. The film that Amarcord shares a deeper affinity with is one which was obviously influenced by it; Woody Allen's grossly underrated and terrific Radio Days. Which of those two films is better is debatable, although Allen's film is tighter, shorter, and a bit deeper in characterization. Allen's opening classroom scenes in Annie Hall also owe a debt to this film's school-based scenes. Amarcord is not a masterpiece, on par with earlier Fellini classics like Nights ... Read More
