This movie was exellent. It was brand new so there was nothing wrong with it.

VHS : The Professional
I saw all the "best movie" reviews and bought it. I was let down as although it is good, it is far from best in my book. The acting performances are what make the movie. Reno and Portman really bring life to a very improbable relationship, and it is heartwarming in spots.

Beyond that the movie lost credibility almost from the start with the over-the-top action. This was supposed to be in NY. The opening assassination scene is ridiculous. Machine gun fire goes on for ten minutes, yet there are no cops, no neighbors. Reno seemingly can be in two places at once, crawling through ceilings and scaling multiple floors, and a crack shot of course, while others are blind. And escape is never a problem. This goes on in every action scene and isn't credible. The action in the DEA office is a joke. And ... Read More

I like Nathalie Baye, she is definitely not hollywood pretty nor attractive, but like Audrey Tautou who stars in this film, they are both extremely feminine, unlike Emmanuelle Seigner who seems almost masculine next to them.

It is a French movie and you have to accept the plot is thin and the movement slow, but if you dig the French style, then this movie is worth watching several times.

This is perhaps the only decent DVD of this movie available. The previous no-extras release was pan-and-scan, but the print appears to have been a tad cleaner than the one used for this wide-screen edition. The extras are all right: The best is about how the film came to the big screen. The weakest is the oddly edited collection of outtakes. The "behind the scenes with..." extra is good, but it is clear that the interviews were each only a few seconds long and nothing like the extended commentary you'll hear on, say, a Peter Jackson extra. The audio commentary is probably the best thing going.

All in all, if five stars is a "Isnt' that faaaaaaaaaaaaabulous?!?" and one star is a "two slags at a pie bake-off", this ranks 4.5 stars. The film alone is worth it!

Ok, it had a couple of funny moments but that's it. I like the action and the combination of Tomas Millian and Franco Nero is cool!! I reccomend it for Spargetti Western fans!! A lot of familiar faces too. "Vamos a matar Companeros" is a neat song that will stick to you.

6.Borsalino starring: Jean-Paul Belmondo, Alain Delon, André Bollet, Michel Bouquet, Nicole Calfan

VHS : Borsalino
This is one of the all-time fun French gangster films. I saw it in a cinema in Paris, but just try to find the DVD or videotape! I guess they're trying to increase its rarity value by foisting a much inferior film, Borsalino & Company, on Delon and Belmondo fans. Well, this is the genuine article, more Marseille than the real city, perhaps 60 years or so ago, so just enjoy the great dialogue and scenarios IF YOU EVER MANAGE TO GET YOUR HANDS ON THIS TAPE OR (BETTER) DVD.

Aside from other reviewers who apparently have it in for this movie, I actually rather enjoyed it. Granted, I agree that the dub was pretty so-so and a bit corny. But, well, it's a Jackie Chan movie! Were we really expecting Citizen Kane?

I thought the action was good, and generally enjoyed it. Sure, the villain was a bit over-the-top, and the plot premise was a bit hard to believe (not entirely unlike the premise of The Golden Child, with Eddie Murphy), but then again, when is that ever NOT the case in a Jackie Chan movie?

In all, I like the movie. Perhaps not as much as The Forbidden Kingdom. The Myth or the Rush Hour series. But, I figure it's another decent Jackie Chan movie. Happy to have it in the collection.

I love many Indie films, obviously with a two star rating I do not like Stranger Than Paradise. I'm not going to use my college term paper that I wrote to show how smart I am posting it here (I never went to film class in College, that's a joke), I'm just going to give a LITTLE balance to what I feel was a real rip off. This film is engaging the first time you watch it but if you value your time, it totally rips you off in the end leaving you hanging and felling like you just lost at three card Monty, a set up pool game, crooked craps, and whatever else you may have been physiologically raped in your past. Watch this all the way through and that's the feeling you may (or may not for all I know, so many people love it, but just not me) feel. One qualifying note, if you enjoyed Ghost World, this is in the same vein of entertainment. ... Read More
