I bought this for my husband. We had seen it before and expected this to be the same, but it isn't quite. The acting is first-rate.Photography is beautiful-all those idyllic country scenes. It is of course a tragedy.Depending on ones viewpoint they either get their just deserts or they should just go off into the sunset, family and responsibilities shrugged off.I was pleased with the speed of delivery and service.

VHS : Emma's Shadow
This is another favorite film of mine that hasn't made it to DVD yet, and I just can't understand why these studios won't release DVD versions of these excellent films. The portrayal of the friendship between a little girl and an ex-con in this film is moving and honest, without ever getting too sacchrine. I've been waiting for the DVD version of this for years now, and I hope it happens soon.

VHS : Babette's Feast
I love this movie. One of my culinary school instructors recommended it, so I ordered it and within two days it was in my hands. Some people can't keep up with the slow start to the story, but when telling a good story it's not always necessary to jump right to the exciting part. You draw it out. Like cooking, storytelling is a craft that's quickly losing it's place in public eye. Both have been replaced by getting spoon-fed homogenous crap from a can.

At the end of the movie, when the sisters realize that Babette had given all of her money to prepare the meal, I identified with her, I felt a solidarity with her. She did it to feel like a human being again. There's such love. I only hope that someday I might perform like that. I've always looked at cooking as performance-art. My older sister ... Read More

Horrible like most of his films. I hate him and his films. Pretentiousness person who makes pretentious overrated films. Hopefully history will make the shelf life of these films wither away just like all other terrible movies of the past.

VHS : Pelle the Conqueror
"Pelle the Conqeror" won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language film back in 1988 and that, for me, is generally a category that warrents a look. Pelle did not fail me because it is an outstanding movie. It's a sort of "Giants in the Earth" with a shorter emigration trip. A man somewhat up in years travels from Sweden to Denmark with his young son (roughly 10-12 years old). The goal is a better life than what they left behind in Sweden (along with their recently deceased wife/mother). As the ship lands, many are hired right off the boat but there is little interest in the combination of two males; one too old and the other too young. They eventually get a job but one in which neither employer nor employee got what they were looking for.

Pelle is the young lad and it is through his perspective that most of the movie emerges ... Read More

This is really a good performance by the very young Jane Seymour, even when the movie is not very long. But it is worth to be seen.
