Love the DVD. My VCR tape finally wore out. I can really understand the words better- much clearer than the tape.
This is a must have in every home if you like a good action packed movie that has serious moments, good laughs and great lines about how to think about life and living in it.
Val Kilmer, Kurt Russell and Sam Elliott at their best.

Richard Boone carries this rather uneven
Western, with superb support from a stellar
cast, although Whitman's role is disappointingly
small - THE COMANCHEROS is a better choice
for Whitman fans. Boone's is a rare blend
of tough-guy savagery and rough-edged
humanity, and contemporary Hollywood is starved for
the authentic manliness that actors like
Boone once brought to the screen. Factor in
his distinctively droll humor, and you have
that indefinable Star Power so elusive today.
Granted, the film - as noted in previous
reviews - is startlingly violent, but it
is not gratuitously so. On the contrary,
the movie trades Hollywood-style storytelling
for realism. There are no "good soldiers" or

5.Little Big Man starring: Dustin Hoffman, Faye Dunaway, Chief Dan George, Martin Balsam, Richard Mulligan
directed by: Arthur Penn

VHS : Little Big Man
Dustin Hoffman is great in this classic Western. It's one of the best Westerns out there. Hoffman plays a cavalry man who ends up living among the Native Americans. It's a bitter story of how poorly and unjustly were these people treated. Unfortunately, they're not faring much better today and the government does not treat them better either. There are some truths in this movie that we're still not willing to face and come to grips with today. This should be a required material for school kids and grown ups alike. We'd be much more grateful for what we have instead of complaining for what we can't buy if we thought about these things more.

6.Across the Wide Missouri starring: Clark Gable, Ricardo Montalban, John Hodiak, Adolphe Menjou, J. Carrol Naish
directed by: William A. Wellman

It is impossible to watch this at time breathtakingly beautiful movie without sadness not least because what survives is a mere fraction of the movie made by the great William Wellman -the studio interfered in the picture excising great swathes of the footage Wellman shot and adding a ponderous voice over narration declaimed in sonourous mannner by Howard Keel which adds nothing to the picture whatsoever .
It is a movie about the destruction of a way of life -that of the mountain men .The source material is a novel by Bernard de Soto which is based on the life of one such man , Flint Mitchell ,who controlled the trade with the Blackfoot Indians in the Rockies during the 1820,s .In many ways he was the very incarnation of the pioneer spirit , a trader and adventurer married to a Native American ,and ... 7.The Virginian starring: Bill Pullman, Diane Lane, James Drury, John Savage, Dennis Weaver

VHS : The Virginian
There are no words to describe how SLOW this movie was from beginning to end, but let me try anyway so as to give people a fair chance to avoid it and thus try and prevent their day/evening from being ruined: the film deals with the story of a schoolteacher from New England who meets a Virginian cowboy on the plains of Wyoming.
The presence of Bill Pullman and Diane Lane did very little to alleviate the pain of watching this slooow and boooring mooovie...
In addition, Diane Lane's character was way to pushy/bossy/feminist for late 19th century, making it rather unrealistic.
As for the supporting characters, this film does not seem to be their thing, and subsequently they look like they are out of place.
In relation to the plot and the dialogues, they are way beyond "below average." ... Read More

VHS : Rio Grande (1950)
Another one of my favorite movies with John Wayne and the whole John Ford crew.
The scene where Ben Johnson, Harry Carey Jr., and Claude Jarman Jr. ride two Horses Roman style (that's standing on the two horse's backs) was actually done by them, not stuntmen! They just don't make them like that anymore.

VHS : Geronimo (1962)
I viewed this movie as a decent Western, if taken as pure American mythology, in the same spirit as Longfellow's "Song of Hiawatha". Unlike, however, Longfellow's epic and flowing lyric, "Geronimo" gets bogged down in some noticably stupid aspects; most obviously, the ludicrous casting of the blonde/blue eyed Chuck Connors as the lead. Although, it appeared as though real Native Americans were cast as extras, all major Apache roles seemed to be filled by whites.

Another imbecility was that the beautiful actress who played Geronimo's wife was repeatly seen in the middle of the New Mexican/Mexican wilderness perfectly suited in nice clean clothes, perfect hair and make-up. I didn't know that Apache women used Avon products.

The illiterate Geronimo is also seen pontificating to his Apache warriors like ... Read More
