It sure would be nice if this movie were to become available on DVD or
Blu-Ray it it's original theatrical widescreen release. Remastered
sound and picture, if necessary, would be great, too. This is one of
Paul Newman's best films. Looking forward to the day.

VHS : Revolution (1985)
I think its easily the best movie about the American Revolution. The A&E videos of TV pressentations of "The Crossing" and "Benedict Arnold" are also very good. While how good it is is a matter of opinion, anyone who thinks that Gibson's silly movie is better doesn't know much about American history. This movie has the feeling of the 1770s and the criticism of Pacino's and Kinsky's accents is amusing. The residents of the americas came from every corner of the earth and regional accents were numerous. Who knows how anyone sounded?

The real disappointment is that the available Portuguese region one dvd has very disappointing video quality. But at least it IS widescreen. But I am looking forward to a decent U.S. release. I suspect the dvd import is pirated.

But its ... Read More

I always have to debunk those negative remarks when it comes to military movies. First of all, the U.S. government is not going to allow a true movie to come about any mission. Secondly, the director got the idea from someone who was obviously involved in this situation so don't blame them, blame the person who told it. Black Hawk Down contained fallacies itself. Don't believe me? The next time you watch a "military" movie, watch it with a servicemember: They will find something wrong. ACTUAL REPRESENTATION IS NOT ALLOWED.

I enjoyed this movie immensely: The actors work well together and it imparts the idea that everyone has a reason for joining the military. It is interesting and I am happy to have it as part of my movie collection.

This is a decent film that deserves to be re-issued on DVD. While not a big budget opus like infamous Mel Gibson's THE PATRIOT, this is a much higher quality film overall. While a bit slow in the beginning with family relationships in Lexington, the film picks up when the British at last appear on the screen! There is a nice shot of the British columm deploying impressively into line to face Captain Parker's company. The only problem here is that the British force at this point consisited of six companies of Light Infantry who jogged into town at a fast clip before forming line opposite the militia. This would have been less impressive to show, plus i guess the available re-enactors could not all be shown in Light Infantry garb. So we get the usual mix of line companies, Grenadiers and Lights ... Read More

Sometimes, Hollywood tells the truth--and this is one of those times!!! This is part of your United States Air Force history! Many of you might even remember some of these things, and you will understand a whole lot more than you do now! Real people, real events, and a real story! There is a real Air Force Base in Kansas named after this guy. An American Hero of the modern age that you may not have heard of, and a forefather of the USAF. Some people have an abiding fear of truth, though, so those people should not see this movie!!! Now, exactly what was going on when you were born???

I've been looking for this on DVD but i guess it's not politically correct, if you've seen it you know what i mean. Still a great movie, the strongest part of which is the superb acting by Glenn Ford and especially Ernest Borgnine. The dialogue is good but the chemistry is even better. Ford's terse command voice during sub operations is also excellent, i can't think of a better sub capt performance beside it except Das Boot.

9.Darby's Rangers starring: James Garner, Etchika Choureau, Jack Warden, Edd Byrnes, Venetia Stevenson

The hardest part of writing a review for this movie was selecting a myriad of titles that filled my imagination: "Fell on its Own Plunger," or "Navy Recruiting Film," or "Pull the Pin on this One and Release the Charging Handle, " or "Weapons Free at the Movie Marquee."

Although I have a great memory for the good things, I also have one for those which are bad, and this is bad. It's bad enough to make John Wayne's "The Green Berets" look like a Cannes Festival Film Classic, and this ranks as the worst military movie I have ever seen, being right down there with "The Blue Max."

It is 1942 and Colonel Darby played by James Garner is marked as a "comer" in the army. That was the term of the day for someone who was destined for the stars, at least on his epaulettes. Darby wants to form an elite commando ... Read More

You have to admit, it's a great premise. What would America look like and do if war was conducted on our own soil instead of across an ocean? But instead of going the conventional way of showing you anything and everything about it, director John Milius decided to give this depressing scenario a view from a bunch of high school kids. We don't even know the full extent of the attack until the middle of the movie. Interesting concept sure, but what looks good on paper almost never works when fully attempted.

First off, with the exception of a young Charlie Sheen, the acting is bad... as in pathetic. Patrick Swayze is a guy you wouldn't expect this from, but he's one of the worst offenders. Then there's the plausibility of the Wolverine story. Sure, it's possible that a band of high schoolers could take on the Commies ... Read More
