As with many stories, this one comes from several versions, even within the Disney group. This is basically the version I remembered of the animated presentations of Robin Hood. Look for some of the Robin Hood cliches, like the arrow splitting the arrow already in the bulls eye (Can this really be done? Check with the Myth Busters!) Sherwood Forest may be close to home. During one of the fight scenes, I distinctly heard the "fight song" "On Wisconsin." How did this end up in the movie? Was this some kind of product placement? Buy it. Enjoy it. Give a copy to a kid you know. Keep a copy for the kid you are.

I bought this movie for my grandparents. I have never seen it but having it arrive in the mail to them after they searched and searched for it locally; made my grandpa cry.

I remember as a child watching all the great old pirate movies with my Dad on Friday nights. Tyrone Power was always one of our favorites and The Black Swan is one movie that stood out in memory for me. It is a beautifully filmed and vastly entertaining film and one I just had to add to my "good ole days" section of my DVD library. If you love pirates-don't pass up on this treasure.

Could there have been a more attactive silver screen couple than Tyrone and Gene in ' Son of Fury ' - I don't think so ! He was an extremely handsome man and she could only be described as stunningly beautiful. If, for no other reason, this is worth a watch simply to just see the scenes they share on the idyllic tropical island. An excellent supporting cast particularly with George Sanders playing the part of the cad in fine fashion. I love the ending where Tyrone returns and runs to Gene on the beach.

I know this great movie from way back. I have ordered it, but it did not arrive. I wish still to get it, and if this review has any influence, maybe it still can be organised to get it. Surely someone has it. It is totally unavailable here in Australia. The same with "The Yellow Rolls Royce"

No offence to DiCaprio but Richard Chamberlain's duel role of "The Man in the Iron Mask" was definitely better. It amazes me only foreign versions of this on DVD are available. Why not a Region 1 version? Chamberlain did three wonderful Dumas classics, this "The Count of Monte Cristo", and "The Three Musketeers". The first two are not available on Region 1 DVDs after all these years. Great movie that I highly recommend for the whole family. Let's hope someone like Criterion gets the rights for both Chamberlain's Dumas movies that aren't available and does a proper job of releasing them. I love this movie. I owned it on VHS and was looking to upgrade, so I bought this DVD. It's a 2 sided disc so you have to turn the disc over half way through the movie just to watch the rest. Lame. I was also a bit disappointed that the video by Bryan Adams wasn't at the end with the credits like it was on the VHS. It was also at the end of the movie in the movie theatre too, so I'm not sure why they would exclude it on the DVD. I love this movie and hate to give it any thing less than a 4, but because of the DVD format, I'm giving it a 2.
