I couldn't help myself. This is a touching movie with all the flavor of a time gone by. Very intimate to detail of life in early America. I won't reveal too much but It is so good it is one of my favorites of all time now.

On my first viewing, my two Springer Spaniels were watching it with me, one on each side of me on the sofa, and I couldn't help myself but cry unashamed at a few points. I'm just soft for caring for dogs and the reality of how beautiful they really are in their pure care for their place as man's best friend. This is a unique and one-of-a-kind story that I recommend to anyone who loves dogs and kids and family.

While the movie wasn't nearly as good as the book, it was an excellent teaching tool for my fifth graders. Many are reluctant readers. After reading the book and viewing the movie, the book won hands down. Mission accomplished. Although the movie was somewhat of a disappointment, the service I received was excellent. If I need to purchase movies or materials for my classroom in the future, amazon.com will be one of my first stops.

VHS : Iron Will (Clam)
The question in my mind is was there ever a Will Stoneman. Google comes up with nothing. I did find something that said Albert Campbell claimed to be Iron Will. He said the story was based on the fact that his father died and in just two weeks he fulfilled his dying fathers wish and won the race.
I have always associated Will Stoneman with an old man I once saw on TV. He talked about winning a dog sled race and later going to the (North/South Pole?) on an expedition back in those days. He was hired because he was an expert with dog teams. Albert Campbell says he won the race in 1917. The Canadian politician Albert Campbell was born in 1910 I believe, in Canada. And grew up on the family farm.

So, who knows what the real story is? If someone does I would certainly ... Read More

VHS : Balto (Clam)
Balto is one of the most emotive, epic and interesting cartoons movies I have ever seen in years.

Based on a true story happened in 1925, the film deals with the raffles a half dog and half wolf creature named Balto will have to face to reach its goal. To bring from one miles away medicines for the diphtheria, that almost makes some children of that village pass away.

Funny sequences ornament this well told story. There will an implacable enemy Steele, a beauty dog, fierce animals, hair raising sequences and of course, the snowy and windy weather.

A movie for kids and adults too. Lovable, entertained and recommended. Don't let it pass in front of you.

What makes this horse movie extra special is that it is based on a true story & one of the three arabian stallions that made such a profound influence on the thoroughbred-it changed the breed forever. This film also shows the special bond between a boy & his horse. People of all ages will love this movie. I hope it comes out on Disc some day soon.

I would have preferred the language remain G in this film. I believe young children learn enough bad language out of the home, that it didn't need to be included in this movie.

VHS : The Call of the Wild - Dog of the Yukon (1997)
In contrast to many Hollywood movies which rely on special effects, this version of The Call of the Wild, is a low budget movie made by a Canadian television group, but it is the best adaptation, and there is tremendous depth. In this movie, the environment in the North, the psychology, and the literary style of Jack London, are brought to life in a very authentic manner. More than 50 % of the original book is narrated verbatim by Richard Dreyfuss, but this neither slows down the movie nor subtracts from the action: on the contrary, this narration actually adds special texture to the movie and brings to life the laconic depth of Jack London's writing style, adding literary value to the movie. Both the dog and Rutger Hauer in the movie are good representations of the two protagonists in the original book. ... Read More
